  • Patent number: 5775583
Abstract: In a hydrodynamic heat generator for a motor vehicle with an internal combustion engine having a cooling water circuit with a circulating pump, the hydrodynamic heat generator comprises a generator housing part which is integrated with a pump housing part and defines a water space which is in communication with the pumping space and includes a bladed rotor and a bladed stator firmly supported in the generator housing part adjacent the water space and an electromagnetic clutch for engagement of the bladed rotor with a drive shaft which extends through the heat generator housing part into the pump housing part and carries, at its end in the pump housing part, an impeller for circulating the cooling water.

  • Patent number: 5224447
Abstract: An air guide housing, for a fan impeller of a radiator of internal combustion engines, includes a cowl ring arranged downstream on the radiator and having at least one radial outflow opening. The fan impeller is overlapped at least partially, in the axial direction, by the cowl ring. In order to achieve an improvement in the guiding away of the air and thereby reduce pressure losses in the outflow from the fan, even in the case of restricted installation spaces, guide vanes are provided in the region of the outflow openings.

  • Patent number: 4667791
Abstract: Disclosed is a fluid friction clutch which comprises an input shaft, a primary disk connected to the shaft, and a secondary drive part, i.e., the clutch housing. The primary disk rotates in a work chamber arranged in the clutch housing and includes a reserve chamber in its interior. A fluid stream, which circulates between the work chamber on the secondary side and the reserve chamber on the primary side, is controlled via a valve attached to the primary disk. The valve is actuated via a tappet arranged coaxially in the input shaft. The orifice of the valve is arranged on the end face of the primary disk, and the associated valve closure element is located in the interior of the reserve chamber. An overflow orifice is present on the circumference of the primary disk in conjunction with a baffle, whereby pumping of the fluid from the work chamber into the reserve chamber is achieved. This fluid friction clutch is used, preferably, as the fan drive means for a radiator in motor vehicles.

  • Patent number: 4538553
Abstract: Method of and apparatus for control of the heating capacity of a hydrodynamic brake which is associated with a liquid-cooled internal combustion engine, in the cooling medium circuit of which heat exchangers, a cooling medium circulating pump and the hydrodynamic brake acting as a heater are arranged. A regulation of the state of charge of the working chamber of the hydrodynamic brake occurs by a pressure regulator valve. In the case of a method and apparatus for controlling the heating capacity taking an available drive power into consideration, the pressure regulator valve which influences the heating capacity is controllable as a function of the load of the internal combustion engine.

  • Patent number: 4493293
Abstract: A hydrodynamic device, including a vaned rotor wheel, a vaned stator wheel and an electromagnetic clutch, is located, as a heater, in a cooling water circuit of an internal combustion machine and can be switched on and off as a function of the temperature of the medium to be monitored. In order to obtain a further use for such a hydrodynamic device, the latter is arranged in such a way that, in a switched position in which it is not effective for heating, it is effective as a hydrodynamic clutch for driving the water pump.

  • Patent number: 4467747
Abstract: A fluid-friction clutch for a cooling fan of an internal combustion engine, the clutch being fitted on the water-pump shaft which drives the impeller of a water pump for the internal combustion engine and being controlled by an expansion-type thermostat element which is located in a longitudinal bore through the water-pump shaft. Cooling water of the internal combustion engine is applied directly to the expansion-type thermostat element, this water being continuously conveyed through the longitudinal bore in the water-pump shaft by utilizing the pressure-difference created in the cooling water by the impeller of the water pump. In order to cool both the working chamber of the fluid-friction clutch and the clutch-bearing, a cooling line is arranged inside the working chamber and connected to the cooling-water circulation inside the longitudinal bore through the water-pump shaft.

  • Patent number: 4377068
Abstract: A stator construction for hydrodynamic torque converters with the stator construction including a plurality of stator blades fixedly arranged on a supporting hub. A supporting hub is adapted to be non-rotatably fixed in a reactionary direction of rotation of the torque converter. At least one additional stator blade is arranged between two neighboring fixed stator blades and guided movably on the supporting hub along a path of revolution concentric to the wheel axis between a central partial load position and a clutch position in the proximity of one of the fixed stator blades lying at the rear with respect to the reactionary direction of rotation.
