  • Patent number: 8126636
Abstract: An arrangement includes, but is not limited to an internal combustion engine, a pressure reducer that reduces gas pressure of gaseous fuel for the engine. The reducer connects on a high-pressure side to a gas tank and connects on the low-pressure side to a controllable gas injection valve regulating the gas flow. A high-pressure shutoff valve is on the high-pressure side and connected to the reducer to shut-off the gas flow from the gas tank. The high-pressure shutoff valve includes, but is not limited to a pilot valve with a small opening and a main valve with a large opening, and an electronic controller used at least for controlling the high-pressure valve and a gas injection valve. The pilot valve of the high-pressure valve opens in chronological order before the gas injection valve.

  • Patent number: 7722009
Abstract: An electromagnetic valve for a vehicle gas cylinder, said valve comprising: a valve body; an external thread section of the valve body, that can be screwed into an internal thread on the gas cylinder; a section of the valve body protruding into the gas cylinder; a shut-off piston; and electromagnetic control elements which can be used to displace the shut-off piston from a conducting position into a closed position. The valve body comprises a cavity for receiving the shut-off piston and the control elements, said cavity being located inside the thread section and/or in the section of the valve body protruding into the gas cylinder. In order to simplify the disassembly and assembly of one such valve, the mouth of the cavity is arranged on the head end of the valve body located outside the gas cylinder. The shut-off piston and the electromagnetic control elements can be inserted into the cavity through the mouth thereof.

  • Patent number: 7480556
Abstract: The invention relates to an internal combustion engine which can be operated with at least two fuels that have different knock resistance and which comprises at least one cylinder in which combustion of the fuel takes place cyclically. Said engine is provided with a dosing system for feeding a controlled quantity of fuel to the cylinder in every cycle. The dosing system is designed in such a manner that, when fuels are used that are less resistant to knocking, the quantity of air-fuel mixture supplied is maintained below a threshold quantity at which there is no danger of knocking.

  • Patent number: 6845616
Abstract: The invention provides an internal combustion engine which can be run optionally on various fuels of different energy density, in particular for a motor vehicle drive, characterised in that the engine is equipped with a supercharging compressor which can be connected up when using a low-energy-density fuel at least when power requirements are elevated, so that the engine works as a supercharged engine, whereas the supercharging compressor is shut off when using a high-energy-density fuel and the engine works as a naturally aspirating engine.

  • Publication number: 20040144371
Abstract: The invention relates to an internal combustion engine (1) which can be operated with different fuels which have different energy densities, e.g., petrol or natural gas. The invention provides that in order to balance the different output development, especially if an internal combustion engine of this type is used in the drive system of a motor vehicle, the internal combustion engine is operated with a boost in the natural gas mode. A turbo-charger (5) which is known per se or an externally driven load compressor can be used to this end. In this way, it is possible to keep the running characteristics of a motor vehicle constant, even with the use of alternative fuels with different energy densities.
