Abstract: A display device for a motor vehicle includes: a display for displaying vehicle information; a computing device receiving vehicle data via a data bus, evaluating the received vehicle data, and causing an acoustic warning as a function of the evaluation of the vehicle data; and a connection between the display device and a loudspeaker for outputting of the acoustic warning, the connection to the loudspeaker being connected to an input of an evaluation device in such a way that, depending on a signal present at the connection of the loudspeaker, a malfunctioning or a functioning of the acoustic output is determined, and an optical warning display is provided for outputting an optical warning in the case of a malfunction of the acoustic output.
