  • Patent number: 6401582
Abstract: An apparatus for removing binder straps from coils of metal strip in which a cage is engageable with the coil and has a blade carriage displaceable over at least a region in which binder straps may be provided in a continuous manner so that a wedge can engage beneath the straps in succession and a cutting tool can cut through straps in a single continuous operation without interrupting the movement of the carriage. The wedge and the carriage can be provided with clamping elements to engage the strap after it is cut to allow it to be transported to a scrap bin.

  • Publication number: 20020020269
Abstract: A trimming apparatus for metal strip has trimming heads on opposite sides of a turntable along each edge of the strip so that the trimming heads can be rotated into the trimming position or into the maintenance and blade-replacement positions. On each of the turntables as well a scrap-strip cutter is associated with the respective trimming head and the scrap-strip cutters are disposed diagonally opposite one another across the turntable and each trimming head and its scrap-strip cutter on one side of the turntable is connected to a clutch half on the opposite side of that turntable so that the scrap-strip cutter and the trimmer are driven by a common drive.

  • Publication number: 20010007422
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the contactless determination of planarity and a ferromagnetic metal strip during transit of the strip through a strip-processing line or cold-rolling line. Hysteresis loops repetitively impressed in the metal strip and the tangential magnetic field strength is measured at a surface thereof and electromagnetic parameters are determined from the time course of the tangential field strength signal. The parameters are functions of the mechanical stress which is evaluated to determine residual intrinsic stress distribution and then the planarity or nonplanarity of the strip.

  • Patent number: 5829287
Abstract: The stretch leveling or stretch-bend leveling of aluminum or stainless steel strip of a thickness of 0.1 to 0.5 mm is carried out following a measurement of strip nonplanarity or strip profile by regulating the stretch in the stretch leveler or the contour of a roller thereof or both and/or by regulating the depth of penetration or degree of bending by the stretch-bend rollers. • Patent number: 5759307
Abstract: A method of producing a cold-rolled strip from a stainless, ferretic or austenitic high-grade steel or a titanium alloy, wherein the strip which has been wound into a coil and has been manufactured by a hot-rolling or casting process is subjected in one pass to the steps of unwinding the coil, mechanically descaling the strip if required, subsequently chemically and/or electrochemically first or black pickling of the strip, then cold-rolling the strip to finished dimensions, degreasing the strip as required, annealing the strip, finish-pickling the strip and, if necessary, passivating, dressing and stretcher-leveling the strip. The pickling step is carried out in a pickling solution which contains hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid and/or nitric acid.

  • Patent number: 5579658
Abstract: Method and apparatus for producing large-area metal, especially steel, plates. The metal strip unwound from a coil is continuously treated by a heat treatment followed by stretch-bend leveling and then stretcher-leveling, the latter being discontinuously carried out by clamping the strip at two locations and urging those locations apart. Only subsequently is the strip cut to form the plates.

  • Patent number: 5320266
Abstract: A strip storage arrangement with a strip storage unit in strip treatment plants. The strip storage unit is divided into two or more storage sections. Each strip storage section has its own tension drive. Speed-controlled intermediate strip drives are arranged between the storage sections. The intermediate strip drives apply the bending and friction forces of the preceding storage section, so that the tension input value of the first loop strand of each storage section is equal. The resulting strip storage unit can have any storage capacity and is of simple and operationally safe construction.

  • Patent number: 5182931
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for continuous tension stretching of thin metal strips. The strip is conducted through a set of brake rollers and a set of pull rollers and the strip is subjected to a stretch-forming or stretch pull operation between the two sets of rollers for stretching the strip in the plastic range, wherein the stretch pull force corresponds to the yield point of the strip material. The strip is subjected between the set of brake rollers and the set of pull rollers only to a stretch-pull which is required for stretching the strip in the plastic range. As a result, transverse elongation during plastic stretching is minimized, so that center troughs no longer occur and, when the strip is longitudinally divided, the strip portions no longer have unequal side lengths.
