  • Publication number: 20040096041
Abstract: The aim of the invention is to determine the position of at least one subscriber terminal (MP1) of a radio communications system (MCS). To this end, the invention provides that during and/or after a change in responsibility from a first radio network control unit (RNC1) to a second radio network control unit (RNC2), at least one interrogation signal (ME1), which had been originally directed toward the first radio network control unit (RNC1) in order to determine the position of the respective subscriber terminal (MP1) to be located, is relayed to the second radio network control unit (RNC2).

  • Publication number: 20040057423
Abstract: In a third generation (UMTS) mobile radiotele-phone system, data are transmitted between a base station and a mobile station in packet form via the air interface. A connection control protocol with the task of inter alia, establishing whether and which of the data packets have been lost during the transmission, using control data, functions in both stations. These control data are added to each packet that is sent by the connection control protocol. Several packets can be transmitted within the transmission interval and the number of packets can vary from interval to interval. This allows different data transmission rates. The inventive method enables the number of packets that are sent via the air interface to be reduced, by transmitting larger, rather than more packets within a predetermined interval. This does not affect the possibility of varying the data transmission rate.

  • Publication number: 20040028078
Abstract: A method is provided for transmitting data packets via a radio interface of a mobile radio system, wherein a control unit of a first entity secondary to the control unit in a data link layer transmits information via its logical channels serving as service access points in the form of a configuration message, with the configuration message including information about which logical channels are to be mapped onto which transport channels serving as service access points for a bit transmission layer, about which a set of transport formats predetermined for each of the transport channels and a set of permitted combinations of transport formats for all transport channels, with each transport format having a set of parameters determining transmission characteristics of the transport channel configured with the corresponding transport format, and about which transport formats are permitted for each logical channel or about which a value is predetermined as fixed for at least one of the parameters from the parameter

  • Publication number: 20030086404
Abstract: A communications apparatus having a transmission device, such as a mobile terminal (UE), and a reception device, such as a network control device (RNC), which are linked to one another via channels in a mobile communications network, for transmitting data packets between the transmission device and the reception device which comprise a control data part and a user data part, in which the transmission device has a splitting device for splitting a data packet which is to be transmitted, before transmission, into the control data part and the user data part over various channels of a transmission device which has a channel for the control data part and a channel for the user data part, and the reception device is designed to assemble the control data part and the user data part of the data packet, and also to a method which can be carried out using said communications apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20030035423
Abstract: A method of transmitting data from a sender to a number of recipients in a system with a multilayer protocol architecture, in which the data are divided for organizational purposes into data packets having header data and payload data, a transmitting and/or receiving unit and a communication system. The transmission of data in the form of a point-to-multipoint transmission over a general channel, in particular in a mobile radio system, is carried out by adding to packet data which are being sent to multicast groups control data for the identification of a specific multicast group.

  • Publication number: 20030031322
Abstract: A method for conveying encryption information to parties in a multicast group in a mobile radio network is provided which is distinguished by the fact that a cipher key and a current encryption sequence number or parts of such a sequence number are transmitted via an air interface, via a connection already protected against interception by unauthorized persons which is allocated as dedicated to the receiver of the encryption information.

  • Publication number: 20030022683
Abstract: A method is provided for transmitting multicast messages intended simultaneously for a group of receivers in a radio system, particularly a UMTS mobile radio system, wherein, before a multicast message is transmitted, a resource assignment is transmitted and a connection to the transmitter is set up in accordance with this resource assignment message by the receivers belonging to group. It is only then that the multicast message is transmitted by the transmitter to the individual receivers belonging to group via the connections thus set up.

  • Publication number: 20030018773
Abstract: A method, an apparatus and a communication system in which the amount of data to be processed is reduced while offering a higher level of flexibility and better availability for a provider or operator of a communication system, wherein the user is allocated to at least one group of users as an access and/or usage precondition for the communication system, with the same information being transmitted to all the users in a group.

  • Publication number: 20030007517
Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer program for multiplexing a number of second channels, in particular logical channels, in accordance with the UMTS protocol architecture for the air interface, onto a first channel, in particular a transport channel, in accordance with the UMTS protocol architecture for the air interface, in a transmission apparatus and/or for demultiplexing in the opposite direction in a receiving apparatus, with the channels that are involved being configured by means of at least one configuration command, in particular with regard to the size of the data units to be transported by them. In the configuration, at least one size of data units is in each case supported by only a single second channel, in order to allow data units of this size to be allocated to the relevant second channel.
