  • Patent number: 7937931
Abstract: A procedure is introduced to operate a diesel engine, which has a catalytic converter with three-way conversion characteristics. The procedure is characterized thereby, in that if the engine rotational speed increases without in the process exceeding an engine rotational speed threshold value and the engine's load is greater than a load threshold value, the diesel engine is operated in such a manner that the diesel engine alternately generates an oxidizing and a reductive exhaust gas atmosphere before the catalytic converter. Additionally a control unit is introduced, which controls the sequence of the procedure.

Abstract: A procedure is introduced to operate a diesel engine (10), which has a catalytic converter (24; 26) with three-way conversion characteristics. The procedure is characterized thereby, in that if the engine rotational speed (n) increases without in the process exceeding an engine rotational speed threshold value (n_S) and the engine's load (mk) is greater than a load threshold value (mk_S), the diesel engine (10) is operated in such a manner that the diesel engine (10) alternately generates an oxidizing and a reductive exhaust gas atmosphere before the catalytic converter (24; 26). Additionally a control unit (14) is introduced, which controls the sequence of the procedure.

  • Patent number: 7257479
Abstract: A method and a device for controlling an internal combustion engine are provided, in which method and device a deviation value is determined based on the comparison of a variable characterizing the combustion process in at least one cylinder with a corresponding setpoint value for this variable. Based on the determined deviation value, a first manipulated variable of a first actuator for influencing the start of activation is adjusted. Furthermore, based on the first manipulated variable, a second manipulated variable of a second actuator for influencing the air mass is adjusted.

  • Patent number: 6973914
Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine and a device for executing the method which are based on the fact that a throttle valve is situated in the intake port and an exhaust emission control device is situated in the exhaust system. The air flow setpoint value for the throttle valve is changed following occurrence of a request for heating and/or regenerating the exhaust emission control device. A first diagnostics of the throttle valve provides an error signal in the event of a throttle valve error. When the error signal and the request are present, a switch is made in a characteristics map from a first or a second dataset to an additional dataset on the basis of which at least one control signal of the internal combustion engine is provided.

  • Publication number: 20050245352
Abstract: A method for operating an exhaust gas treatment device of an internal combustion engine in which a change in the operating mode of the internal combustion engine is made as a function of a parameter. A timer is started in response to an operative mode change request. During the time period set by the timer, the system continuously decides, based on evaluation of at least one parameter, whether the change in operating mode can be made. If this is the case, the operative mode change is made immediately. If this is not the case, the operative mode change is made no later than when the time period set by the timer has expired. The method ensures that a driver of a motor vehicle in which the internal combustion engine is provided for propulsion will not notice a torque jump of the internal combustion engine, possibly occurring during an operative mode change.
