User-created notes are enriched with labels, context traits, and relevant data to minimize friction in the note-taking process. Mutable and late-binding to services is also provided to allow private thoughts to be published to a myriad of different applications and services in a manner compatible with how thoughts are processed in the brain. User interfaces and semantic skins are also provided to derive meaning out of notes without requiring a great deal of user input. Linking physical objects to notes are also provided, such as through QR codes.

Abstract: A method and system for collecting and recognizing information from a monitoring device is provided. On a mobile computer device a user can capture an image of a monitoring device. The image captures at least two aspects: (1) monitored data tracked or acquired by the monitoring device, and (2) a portion of the monitoring device sufficient to recognize the monitoring device. Recognition functions are provided for: (1) recognizing and converting the monitored data visible in the captured image into quantifiable data, and (2) for recognizing the monitoring device. A note taking function can be provided to allow a user to create notes. The notes can be enriched with the quantifiable data and/or the recognized monitoring device (or vice versa). A suggestion function can be provided for suggesting services where the quantifiable data, the recognized monitoring device, and/or the notes can be bound.

The system includes an application server that is accessible by users via their computer device for performing a variety of functions encompassed in a lifestream data function. Lifestreams (or lifestream data) contains notes, recordings and annotation data elements. The goal of the lifestream data functions is to ultimately enrich the individual data elements in each lifestream which then form a network of enriched lifestreams or aspects of enriched lifestreams to provide a user with: (a) a better organization of his/her data, notes, thoughts and intentions, (b) a better search or filter tool to search for data, notes, thoughts and intentions, and/or (c) a better ranking mechanism for ranking or determining relevance of data, notes, thoughts and intentions.

An annotiation function annotates content to the notes, which could be context traits and/or user identity traits. User identity traits are augmented through information obtained from the creation process and/or the interaction process with notes or Cloud information. Using a discovery function, notes can be discovered for a user from a note database/store using aspects of the context traits and/or the augmented user identity traits.
