  • Publication number: 20060240701
Abstract: A plug connector device (10) for multicore flat cables (15), has a plug (11) which can be fixedly joined to one end of a flat cable in a mechanical fashion, and a plug socket (12) which can be run through by the flat cable (15) such that, with their first contact ends (62), contact elements of the plug socket (12) engaging in the plug (11) can be electronically connected to the flat cable at their other contact ends (63) using IDC technology. To assure that the plug connector device is robust and has high contacting reliability, provision is made that plug (11) is provided with contact elements (18), whose first contact ends (38) are configured for the electrical connection to the first contact ends (62) of the contact elements (19) of the plug socket (12), and whose other contact ends (36) are configured for the connection to the flat cable (15) using IDC technology.

  • Patent number: 6842336
Abstract: A hand-held electrical device (10) such as a mobile telephone, includes a carrier (11) formed by a thick (over 2 mm) plate of insulative material having a plurality of recesses that receive electronic components. The periphery of the carrier forms most of the periphery of the electronic device. A circuit board (52) with traces thereon lies facewise adjacent to a face of the carrier. Electronic components lying in recesses of the carrier, are connected by resilient blades to conductive traces on the circuit board.

  • Patent number: 6142793
Abstract: A molded plastic saddle (19) lies at the front of a PC card (10), the saddle connecting to the front connector (18), the front of the circuit board (16), and the front of the lower cover part (12) in connections that are easily performed by the PC card maker who assembles the components. The saddle has laterally spaced opposite saddle side portions (120, 122) connected by a laterally-extending crossbar (28). Each saddle side portion has a cutout (38) in its side, and the sheet metal lower cover part has upstanding side rails (51, 52) with front portions forming holdown tabs (53) that are bent to extend into the cutouts to lock the front of the lower housing part to the saddle and thereby to the front connector and the front end of the circuit board.

  • Patent number: 6104617
Abstract: A PC card has a sheet metal forward housing part (13) whose rear edge (36) is connected to a plastic molded rear extension part (14) before a sheet metal lower housing element (11) is connected to them, which enables simple coupling of the forward and rearward parts so the two of them can be handled prior to full assembly of the card. The rear edge of the sheet metal forward housing part includes a pair of side tabs (38, 39) at laterally opposite sides and a center tab (44) at the center. The plastic molded part has a front edge portion (110) with a pair of vertical slots (28, 29) at opposite sides for receiving the side tabs, and with a groove (36) at the middle for receiving the center tab. With the plastic molded part lying horizontal, the sheet metal forward part is held in a vertical plane with the side tabs projecting down into the side slots and the center tab lying in the center recess. The sheet metal forward part is then pivoted down, causing the side tabs to bend about 90.degree.

  • Patent number: 6075706
Abstract: A PC card (10) of standard width and thickness (e.g. 54 mm and 5 mm) is constructed to receive a chip card (20) of smaller width and thickness (e.g. 18 mm and 0.8 mm) so the PC card can be used to connect contact pads (60) of the chip card to an electronic device such as a laptop computer into which the PC card is inserted. A frame (22) is mounted in a fixed position on a circuit board of the PC card, the frame having a recess (82) substantially the same width as that of the chip card for closely receiving the chip card to locate it so pads on the chip card engage chip contacts (76) that are also mounted on the circuit board. A planar top portion (86) of a sheet metal cover part has an aperture (24) that communicates with the recess in the frame to permit the insertion of the chip card through the aperture and into the recess of the frame.

  • Patent number: 5842886
Abstract: A plug-receiving connector is provided, which includes a molded plastic housing (12) for mounting on a circuit board, which minimizes stress on the plastic housing in mounting it and in latching to a mating plug. A sheet metal bracket (14) has a top plate part (46) that lies over the top wall (28) of the plastic housing and has a pair of depending sheet metal parts (47, 48, 58, 59) at each of the opposite sides of the top plate part. One of the depending sheet metal parts of each pair is a holding tab (58, 59) that extends through a slit (31, 32) in the plastic housing top wall, through a plug-receiving cavity (16) formed by the housing, and into a slit (33, 34) in a plastic housing bottom wall (29). Each of the second depending sheet metal parts comprises a sheet metal side (47, 48) that lies closely outside a corresponding plastic housing side wall (26, 27), so each plastic housing side wall is sandwiched between a sheet metal holding tab and a sheet metal side.
