  • Publication number: 20040046375
Abstract: An airbag for an airbag module is a section of a seamless continuous tube, at least partly gastight with the free ends of the tube closed and in its inflated state essentially maintains its original volume and its original length. An airbag module includes the airbag and an airbag inflator, which is or can be connected with the airbag. The tubular airbag may be installed in either a seat cushion or seat back of a vehicle seat to act as a barrier to a seat occupant sliding out of the seat when the airbag is deployed.

  • Patent number: 6375215
Abstract: An airbag arrangement comprising: an airbag; a housing (1), formed of plastics material, for containing the airbag in a deflated, folded condition; a cover (5), formed of flexible material, and attached to the airbag housing (1) by a seal around a substantial portion of the periphery of the housing (1). The seal may be by heat or pressure sensitive glue, by ultrasonic or vibration welding or by deformable lugs (9). This arrangement is cheaper to produce and quicker to assemble, and has the advantage of being generally tamper-proof, since any tampering with the package will be immediately evident from detachment of the cover or tears therein.

  • Patent number: 6327838
Abstract: A method for folding an airbag for an airbag module involves straightening the airbag out in the direction of a straightening axis, starting from a gas inlet opening of the airbag. The airbag in the straightened-out state, or during the straightening-out operation, is pushed into a guide sleeve in the direction of the straightening axis. The airbag is then pushed together, and in the method folded, within the guide sleeve in the longitudinal direction thereof, in the direction of the straightening axis. An apparatus for folding an airbag for an airbag module has a straightening ram which, for the purpose of straightening out the airbag, can be pushed into the latter in the direction of a straightening axis by way of a gas inlet opening which has a guide sleeve. The guide sleeve is arranged coaxially with respect to the straightening ram. The straightening ram can be pushed along the straightening axis.

  • Patent number: 6209912
Abstract: An airbag, primarily a driver's airbag, is formed of two, preferably disc shaped pieces of fabric joined at their circumference and having inflation control features including at least two stitch lines each comprising a major portion extending across the body of airbag and a minor central discontinuity in the form of a gap or triangle or peak. Preferably the stitch lines are S shaped and have radial and circumferential aspects.

  • Patent number: 6092834
Abstract: An airbag module has a gas generator. A gas generator support is connected to the gas generator. A cover is connected to the gas generator support. An airbag is arranged in a folded state between the gas generator, including the gas generator support, and the cover. The airbag is provided with an opening in which the gas generator including the gas generator support is installed. The airbag is further provided with passageways in the peripheral area of opening through which hooks or projections of the gas generator support and/or the cover engage extend.

  • Patent number: 6059312
Abstract: An airbag for an airbag module in a vehicle has an upper fabric ply, a lower fabric ply and a middle ply which are connected to one another along their circumferential regions. The middle ply extends between the upper fabric ply and the lower fabric ply essentially parallel to these and is firmly connected to the upper fabric ply and the lower fabric ply with a direct close fit only along its circumference. The lower fabric ply has a gas inlet port and the middle ply has a gas passage.
