  • Publication number: 20030054169
Abstract: Biaxially oriented, co-extruded polyester films comprising a base layer consisting of at least 90 wt. % thermoplastic polyester, preferably polyethylene terephthalate (PET), at least one sealable outer layer and a second non-sealable outer layer and, optionally, other intermediate layers, in addition to at least one UV absorber, preferably hydroxy benzotriazole and triazine, and at least one flame-retardant agent, preferably organic phosphorous compounds. The inventive films are characterized by low inflammability, high UV stability, no embrittlement when subjected to thermal stress and a surface which is devoid of troublesome opacity. They are suitable for a multiplicity of uses both indoors and outside. The outer layers contain anti-blocking agents such as silicic acid having an average particle diameter of preferably less than 50 nm and/or more than 2 &mgr;m. Preferably, the sealable outer layer consists of a copolyester which is made of ethylene terephthalate and ethylene isophthalate units.

  • Publication number: 20030032704
Abstract: The invention concerns transparent, flame-retardant, single layered or multilayered thermoformable films, containing a crystallizable thermoplastic material, preferably polyethyleneterephthalate, and at least one flame retarding agent as main components. Said films are characterized by good stretchability, thermoformability and good mechanical and optical properties, which makes them and the shaped bodies made from said films suitable for both inner and outer applications.

  • Publication number: 20020150751
Abstract: Biaxially oriented, coextruded polyester films with a base layer at least 90% by weight of which is composed of a thermoplastic polyester, preferably polyethylene terephthalate (PET), and with at least one sealable outer layer and a second nonsealable outer layer and, if desired, with other intermediate layers, and comprising at least one UV absorber, preferably hydroxybenzotriazoles and triazines, have high UV resistance, do not embrittle when exposed to high temperatures, have a surface without undesirable haze and are suitable for numerous indoor and outdoor applications. The outer layers comprise antiblocking agents, such as silica with an average particle diameter preferably below 50 nm and/or above 2 &mgr;m, and the sealable outer layer is preferably composed of a copolyester which has been built up from ethylene terephthalate units and ethylene isophthalate units.

  • Publication number: 20020128358
Abstract: The invention relates to a transparent, flame-retardant, oriented film made from a thermoplastic and whose thickness is from 5 to 300 &mgr;m. The film comprises at least one flame retardant and has very good optical and mechanical properties, and also has good orientability and can be produced cost-effectively. The invention further relates to the use of this film and to a process for its production.

  • Publication number: 20020058132
Abstract: The invention relates to a single-layered or multi-layered biaxially-oriented film, which mainly consists of a crystallizeable thermoplastic polyester and which can be produced at final speeds of 340 m/min or higher. According to the invention the film contains a polyester raw material with a specific electrical melt resistance lying within a range from 1.5×107 to 30×107 &OHgr;×cm. The invention also relates to a process for the production of the film by way of extrusion, followed by stretching, thermofixing and winding it at high speeds of 340 m/min and higher.

  • Publication number: 20010055674
Abstract: The invention relates to a three-layer, biaxially oriented polyester film which has very good electromagnetic properties compared with films of the prior art in combination with improved abrasion properties. The film is composed of at least one base layer B and outer layers A and C applied to both sides of this base layer, these outer layers having a defined number of protuberances with a defined height and having a defined gas flow in the roughness profile. The invention furthermore relates to a process for the production of the film and its use as magnetic tape film in which no backing coating is applied.

  • Publication number: 20010033948
Abstract: The present invention relates to an at least single-layer, biaxially oriented film support for magnetic recording media which is predominantly composed of crystallizable polyester, having a thickness in the range from 1 to 40 &mgr;m. The film has, over its total roll length and roll width and after it has been made up into customer rolls, an electrostatic charge build-up which is in the range from −80 kV/m to +80 kV/m, the contact pressure at the roll cutters during make-up being set in the range from 300 N/m to 350 N/m. The film is drawn between electrical discharge means, which are arranged close to the roll, along the film path in the make-up machine, and is particularly suitable for high-quality audio, video or computer tapes and for floppy disks or thermal tapes.
