Publication number: 20050270652Abstract: A beam shaping optical arrangement combines three incoming laser beams that are mutually laterally offset in two orthogonal directions (X and Y), including an incoming first central laser beam and second and third incoming beams laterally offset in the X direction on either side of the central beam, into one outgoing combined laser beam. The arrangement includes two lateral displacement optical units though which the laterally offset incoming beams are transmitted and that laterally displace the two laterally offset incoming beams along the X direction towards the incoming central beam but which do not laterally offset the incoming central beam.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 27, 2005Publication date: December 8, 2005Inventors: Andreas Voss, Martin Huonker, Martin Liermann, Klaus Wallmeroth, Malte Kumkar, Friedheim Dorsch, Christian Schmitz

Patent number: 5553088Abstract: A laser amplifying system is provided having a solid body arranged in a laser radiation field and including a laser active material that is pumped with a pumping light source. The solid body has a cooling surface and transfers heat created therein to a solid cooling element via the cooling surface. In this manner, a temperature gradient results in the solid body in a direction towards the cooling surface. The solid cooling element forms a carrier for the solid body. The laser radiation field propagates approximately parallel to the temperature gradient in the solid body. By enabling heat to be transferred to the solid cooling element via the cooling surface, this structure enables the solid body to be pumped at a high pumping power. Further, since the laser radiation field propagates approximately parallel to the temperature gradient in the solid body, the radiation field sees the same temperature gradient in all cross-sectional areas.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1993Date of Patent: September 3, 1996Assignees: Deutsche Forschungsanstalt fuer Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V., Universitaet Stuttgart Institut fuer StrahlwerkzeugeInventors: Uwe Brauch, Adolf Giesen, Andreas Voss, Klaus Wittig
