Abstract: A description is given of a method for choosing a reference information item in a television signal, which can be employed in particular for calling up an Internet and/or email address with a television set. A television signal comprises a video signal and a supplementary signal, the reference information item being contained in the supplementary signal. According to the invention, the reference information item is assigned to a sub-area of the picture content of the video signal, the reference information item being chosen by selecting the assigned sub-area and a reproduction of assigned information being enabled. The supplementary signal contains contour information items which are assigned to the sub-area of the picture content and represent an approximation of the outer contour of the sub-area The supplementary signal is preferably situated in the vertical blanking interval in the case of an analogue television signal and in the so-called user data in the case of a digital television signal.

Abstract: When recording real-time data on a DVD streamer or DVR the arrival time ATC of every real-time packet received by the recorder is stored along with the data on the recording medium. This is done to provide—by means of the ATCs—the same timing for the playback of the stored real-time stream as the timing of the recording process. However, a data stream received via the Internet TCP/IP protocol having a varying data rate is not played back correctly because the variations of the data rate of the received data stream are present in the played back signal. In the inventive data stream recording an arrival time stamp is provided for each data packet of said data stream, which arrival time stamps represent the arrival times of said data packets and are intended for temporally correct replay of the data stream to be recorded. However, said arrival time stamps are re-stamped in accordance with a desired data rate for the playback of said data stream to be recorded.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a system for exchanging data between a data provider and a data user. The starting point for the invention is a system which is known by the term “video on demand”. The system according to the invention affords a user significantly further-reaching possibilities in that the user can control from home the recordings which he intends to have stored in a database of the provider. These recordings may be, in principle, any desired data which the provider receives by various routes, e.g. via cable connection, satellite antenna, Internet, etc.
