  • Publication number: 20180242348
Abstract: A method for wireless communication at a user equipment (UE) includes receiving timing information and a time-frequency resource configuration for an uplink subframe; selecting at least a first set of time-frequency resources of the uplink subframe on which to transmit; and transmitting a grantless transmission on at least the first set of time-frequency resources. The time-frequency resource configuration identifies a correspondence between at least one receive beam in a set of one or more receive beams and at least one set of time-frequency resources in one or more sets of time-frequency resources of the uplink subframe. The first set of time-frequency resources is selected based at least in part on a transmit beam of the UE, a correspondence of the transmit beam to a receive beam in the set of one or more receive beams, and a correspondence of the receive beam to the selected first set of time-frequency resources.

  • Publication number: 20180241526
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described that involve determining multiple beamformed transmission beams for transmission of an opportunistic or multi-beam discovery reference signal (DRS) over a shared radio frequency spectrum band. The base station may determine a contention exempt transmission (CET) period for the shared spectrum band and transmit the DRS using multiple transmission beams during CET period or the base station may perform a listen before talk (LBT) procedure, and transmit, based on the LBT procedure, the DRS over a shared radio frequency spectrum band. The base station may transmit an indication of the type of DRS transmission, a subframe offset, random access configurations, and/or error correcting codes to enable a user equipment to discover, connect to, and acquire timing information associated with the network.

  • Publication number: 20180160328
Abstract: Techniques for access terminal radio link monitoring on a shared communication medium are disclosed. In an aspect, an access terminal detects a missed reference signal event associated with a radio link established on the shared communication medium, wherein detecting the missed reference signal event comprises determining that the access terminal did not detect a reference signal for measuring a quality of the radio link transmitted during a reference signal configuration window, assigns an error metric to the missed reference signal event based on reference signal monitoring capabilities of the access terminal, and triggers a radio link failure based on the assigned error metric. In an aspect, the missed reference signal event may be a missed Discovery Reference Signaling (DRS) event, the error metric may be a Block Error Rate (BLER) weight, and the reference signal for measuring the quality of the radio link comprises a Cell-specific Reference Signal (CRS).

  • Publication number: 20180115933
Abstract: Techniques are provided for efficient handover of a user equipment (UE) between base stations that operate using different radio access technologies (RATs). A handover message to a UE may indicate that the UE is to be handed over from a source base station operating according to a first RAT to a target base station operating according to a second RAT. The handover message may be configured to be transmitted using the first RAT and include embedded information, that is transparent to the first RAT, for the handover to the target base station using the second RAT.

  • Patent number: 9924368
Abstract: Apparatus and methods of wireless communications are described for determining one or more bands (e.g., guard bands in wireless local area networks (WLANs)) in unused portions of an unlicensed spectrum, positioning one or more carriers for cellular communication (e.g., long term evolution (LTE) or LTE advanced communication) in the one or more bands, and performing the cellular communication over the unlicensed spectrum using the one or more carriers. In some non-limiting example aspects, the cellular communication may be in a standalone mode and the one or more carriers may include a primary component carrier (PCC) that is positioned in a Wi-Fi guard band. In these non-limiting example aspects, the apparatus and methods may further include allocating one or more secondary component carriers (SCCs) in Wi-Fi guard bands or in Wi-Fi channels, where the one or more SCCs are opportunistically tuned or turned ON/OFF based on cell loading or backhaul constraints.

  • Publication number: 20180054780
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) and a base station operating in unlicensed spectrum may temporarily increase a paging opportunity window (POW) size, or reduce a time between POWs, in order to meet performance metrics or account for time periods when a base station is unable to win access to the wireless medium during a POW. In some cases, a UE may identify a failed listen-before-talk procedure and autonomously update the POW size. In other examples, a base station may initiate a change in POW size or increase a number of paging opportunities in order to meet achieve one or more key performance indicators (KPIs). After a predetermined period, or after a triggering condition is no longer present, the UE and the base station may reset the POW size or the number of paging opportunities to a nominal amount to conserve power.

  • Publication number: 20170311316
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may monitor for discovery reference signal (DRS) transmissions, physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) transmissions, or combinations thereof within a DRS transmission window. The UE may attempt to decode DRS or PDSCH transmissions for a subframe based on detection of DRS transmissions, prioritization of DRS transmissions relative to PDSCH transmissions, locations of subframes within a radio frame, overlapping of the DRS transmission window with a paging opportunity, or any combination thereof. In some cases, one or more radio link monitoring (RLM) parameters may be adjusted based on decoding of PDSCH or DRS transmissions.

  • Publication number: 20170280382
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may attempt to access a network at a local area network access point without prior context information. The access point may be a hotspot operating in unlicensed spectrum according to a Long Term Evolution (LTE)-based standard. The UE may be unable to determine if it is authorized to access the network, so the UE may attempt to obtain system information that provides a list of service providers supported by the network. The UE may then determine whether it has credentials for a supported service provider, and the UE may access the network using those credentials when a supported service provider is recognized. Other broadcast messages may provide information about system information for supported service providers. A UE that is unable to access the network using stored credentials may attempt access using a random access channel procedure.

  • Patent number: 9686714
Abstract: Detecting local cell identifier collision by a base station may be achieved by receiving, at a first base station from a user device, a dedicated identifier associated with a second base station. The dedicated identifier may include or otherwise map to a user device identifier associated with the second base station and a local cell identifier associated with the second base station. Based on the dedicated identifier, it may be determined, at the first base station, that there is a local cell identifier collision between the first base station and the second base station.

  • Patent number: 9648509
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided that facilitate providing access point measurements to restricted access points. Restricted access points can lessen restrictions to allow devices to register with the restricted access point for providing measurements thereto. Additionally or alternatively, access point measurements can be provided to a minimization of drive tests (MDT) server for providing to the restricted access points. Thus, restricted access points can obtain the access point measurements for performing enhanced interference management or other functionality based at least in part on the measurements.

  • Patent number: 9609555
Abstract: According to some wireless network standards the size of a neighbor cell list is restricted to a maximum size. The limited size of a neighbor cell list may not reflect the realities of a wireless network deployment, especially for deployments including numerous femto cells clustered in close proximity. Accordingly, as the concentration of macro cells and/or femto cells in an area increases, there lies a challenge to identify and communicate neighbor lists to user devices that reflect the arrangement of a particular portion of the deployment and the needs of the user devices. Various systems, methods and apparatus described herein are configured to provide a user device or a group of user devices a neighbor cell list that includes neighbor cell identifiers chosen from a candidate list.
