Abstract: The invention relates to a driver assistance system for determining a position of a vehicle. The driver assistance system comprises a processing unit and a first positioning system for providing first information about the position of the vehicle. The driver assistance system further comprises a second positioning system for providing second, visual information about the position of the vehicle. The second positioning system is configured to provide the second, visual information about the position of the vehicle based on a comparison between image data of an image generated by an on-board camera of the vehicle and image data of an image stored in a database using a visual bag of words technique. The processing unit is configured for determining the position of the vehicle based on the first information about the position of the vehicle and on the second, visual information about the position of the vehicle.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for determining a type of the road on which a vehicle is driving. The method comprises sensing a sound of a wheel of the vehicle which is rolling on the road by means of a microphone and/or sensing a vertical acceleration of the vehicle by means of a vertical acceleration sensor or sensing a suspension of the vehicle by means of a suspension sensor and determining the type of the road on the basis of the sensed sound and/or the sensed acceleration or the sensed suspension. Further, the invention relates to a device for carrying out the aforesaid method.

Abstract: A driver assistance device for a vehicle includes an image acquisition unit for acquiring at least one image of a region of the surroundings which lies ahead of the vehicle. The drive assistance device includes an analyzing device configured to analyze at least one children-related object from the at least one image acquired by the image acquisition unit 3. The driver assistance device also includes a control device configured to initiate, as a function of a distance between the vehicle and the children-related object analyzed by the analyzing device, at least one measure to prevent a collision of the vehicle with a potentially emerging person associated with the children-related object.
