  • Publication number: 20150382508
Abstract: A system includes an electrical enclosure, a first electrical unit, a first electrical module, a first heat spreader, and a heat sink. The first electrical unit is removably disposed within the electrical enclosure, and the first electrical unit includes a first surface opposite to a second surface. The first electrical module is removably disposed within the first electrical unit, and the first electrical module is inserted into the first electrical unit in a first direction from the first surface to the second surface. The first heat spreader is coupled to the first electrical module, and the first heat spreader comprises a first tapered coupling. The heat sink includes a second tapered coupling. The second tapered coupling is couples with the first tapered coupling of the first heat spreader to form a physical thermal connection that facilitates heat transfer between the first electrical module and the heat sink.

  • Patent number: 8911634
Abstract: A device for separating materials of different densities is provided. A cup body has an internal cavity configured to hold media. An inner wall defines a central body region having an upper and lower end. The upper end is wider than the lower end. An interior shoulder circumscribes the upper end of the central body region. The interior shoulder defines a neck region above the central body region and a shoulder trap below the neck region. The shoulder trap circumscribes the upper end of the central body region and is wider than the neck region. When the device is spun about a central axis, the media travels upward along the inner wall toward the shoulder trap. Relatively more dense material in the media is collected in the shoulder trap, and relatively less dense material is expelled from the device through an opening above the neck region.

  • Patent number: 8790739
Abstract: Dried soft aerated confections and methods of their preparation are provided having a water activity of about 0.1 to 0.4 and a glass transition temperature of less than 20° C. The confections comprise sugars, a foaming and a structuring ingredient, preferably each gelatin, and about 5 to 15% softening agent. Preferred softening agents include glycerin, polyglycerols and mixtures thereof. The confections are aerated to densities of about 0.1 to 0.5 g/cc. The soft dried aerated confections are particularly suited for addition to children's Ready-To-Eat cereals in the form of pieces weighing about 0.1 to 2 g each. The dried confection pieces maintain their soft texture over time without causing moisture migration to the cereal.

  • Patent number: 8546625
Abstract: A process for the conversion of sugars and/or other biomass to produce hydrocarbons, hydrogen, and/or other related compounds is described. In one aspect, the process includes fermenting biomass to produce one or more organic intermediates, for example, a carboxylic acid, and optionally, hydrogen. The carboxylic acids may then be decarboxylated to produce carbon dioxide and one or more hydrocarbon compounds. Also described are steps to further react the hydrocarbon compounds to form polymers, hydrocarbon compounds having at least 4 carbon atoms, or the like.

  • Publication number: 20100228067
Abstract: The present invention generally relates to the conversion of sugars and/or other biomass to produce hydrocarbons, hydrogen, and/or other related compounds. In one aspect, the invention includes fermenting biomass to produce one or more organic intermediates, for example, a carboxylic acid, and optionally, hydrogen. The carboxylic acid may then be decarboxylated to produce CO2 and one or more hydrocarbon compounds, for example, an alkane or an alkene, such as propane or ethylene. Such reactions can occur, in some cases, under hydrothermal conditions, and in some instances, without the use of or need for electrolysis of the reactants. In some cases, for example, if the carboxylic acid (or other organic intermediate) includes a hydroxide moiety, the carboxylic acid may be dehydrated, i.e., reacted such that the hydroxide moiety is removed from the molecule as H2O.
