  • Publication number: 20140143890
Abstract: A device for playing digital media comprises a connection for receiving content over a network and a digital rights management (“DRM”) module that identifies rights for the received content by accessing a DRM data structure. The DRM data structure can be a temporal cache. The device receives content and the DRM module identifies identifiers associated with the content and/or the device. The DRM module uses the identifiers to access the DRM data structure and identify rights associated with the content. The identified rights are applied to the content to prevent and/or permit activities with respect to the content. Permitted activities for the content may be presented in a display of the device and can be updated as the content changes and/or as rights associated with content change. Content providers and other authorized entities can change the rights associated with particular content by updating the DRM data structure.

  • Publication number: 20140143848
Abstract: Systems and methods for authenticating a media device or other information handling system so as to be able to receive content from one or more media content providers. Authenticating the device includes determining what authentication information the media content providers require for access and then to generating and providing to the media device an authentication token that includes the required information. In some embodiments this may be accomplished by a service center, which removes the need for additional authentication steps to be performed by the media device or the media content providers. In addition, the service center may also determine when changes are made to the authentication information and may then ensure that the authentication token is changed or updated to reflect these changes. This ensures that the media device is at least partially immune to changes to authentication.

  • Publication number: 20140118309
Abstract: One particular implementation conforming to aspects of the present disclosure takes the form of an input device for a computing system. The input device includes a input surface on which one or more input characters are shown and one or more sensors to detect which input character is pressed or selected by the user. In one example, the input device may include one or more piezo-electric sensors that detect an acoustic pulse created when the user taps on the input surface to indicate a selected input. Each character of the input surface of the input device creates a different acoustic pulse signature when tapped such that, upon detection and receiving of the acoustic pulse at the piezo-electric sensors, the input device or computer system may compare the received pulse to a database of stored pulse signatures to determine which character on the surface of the input device was tapped by the user.

  • Patent number: 8650612
Abstract: A method and system for locking down a local machine zone associated with a network browser is provided. Placing the local machine zone in a lockdown mode provides stricter security settings that are applied to active content attempting to publish within a local page open in the network browser. The stricter setting are provided in a new set of registry keys that correspond to the lockdown mode of the local machine zone. The original security settings remain unchanged so that other systems and applications functionality that depends on the original security settings remains unaffected for the local machine zone. A user may also selectively allow active content to render despite the local machine zone being locked down.

  • Publication number: 20140026538
Abstract: A turbo charger for an internal combustion engine includes a turbo charger housing defining a spool axis and including an exhaust chamber having an exhaust inlet and an exhaust outlet. The turbo charger housing also defines an air compressor chamber having an air inlet and an air outlet. A spool is mounted within the turbo charger housing for rotation about the spool axis. The spool includes a spool shaft with an exhaust turbine wheel mounted at one end and an air compressor wheel coaxially mounted for common rotation at the opposite end of the spool shaft. A compressed gas injector is mounted to the exhaust chamber of the turbo charger housing for providing a compressed gas flow to the exhaust turbine wheel from a source external to the turbo charger housing in order to supplement power from the exhaust to rotate the spool.

  • Patent number: 8524504
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for detecting an analyte in a sample, comprising the steps of exposing the sample to a transducer which is capable of transducing a change in energy to an electrical signal, the transducer having at least one tethered reagent on or proximal thereto, the at least one tethered reagent having a binding site which is capable of binding the analyte; introducing a labelled reagent into the sample, wherein the labelled reagent contains a binding site for the analyte or the tethered reagent and a label which is capable of absorbing electromagneticradiation generated by a radiation source to generate energy; allowing the labelled reagent to bind to the analyte or tethered reagent in a first period in which the transducer is oriented such that the labelled reagent is caused to settle, at least in part, on the transducer; subsequently, in a second period, causing the labelled reagent to become unsettled; irradiating the sample with electromagnetic radiation during the first and second

  • Publication number: 20130226869
Abstract: Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, for selection of rows and values from indexes with updates. In general, rows of an index may be associated with validity flags that indicate whether a row has been updated with an update inserted in a delta index; one scheme for value identifiers may be used for an index and another scheme for one or more delta indexes where all of the indexes are, to at least some extent, compressed according to dictionary-based compression; and multiple delta indexes may be used in alternation such that one delta index may accept updates while another is being updated. The delta indexes may also have validity flags and all updates, such as modifications of values, deletion of records, and inserting of new records may be handled as updates accepted by one or more delta indexes.

  • Patent number: 8512966
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for detecting an analyte (10) in a sample, comprising the steps of: providing a transducer comprising a pyroelectric or piezoelectric element and electrodes which is capable of transducing a change in energy to an electrical signal, a first reagent immobilised on the transducer, and a second reagent (11) releasably bound to the first reagent and having a label attached thereto which is capable of absorbing electromagnetic radiation to generate energy by non-radiative decay, wherein either the first or second reagent has a binding site which allows binding to the other and which is capable of preferentially binding to the analyte or a derivative of the analyte; exposing the transducer to the sample thereby allowing the analyte or a derivative of the analyte to bind to the binding site and displace the second reagent; irradiating the sample with electromagnetic radiation; transducing the energy generated into an electrical signal; and detecting the electrical signal.

  • Publication number: 20130180416
Abstract: A system and method for applying plastic strapping to bales of material. A strap track assembly comprises a frame, a track, and a flap assembly. The frame is frame sized and configured to permit a bale of material to pass therethrough. The track is coupled to and positioned along an inner surface of the frame, with the track sized and configured to house a length of strapping material therein. The flap assembly is operatively connected to a portion of track positioned along a lower portion of the frame, with the flap assembly including a first flap in selective contact with a second flap. The first flap may be constructed of a metallic material, and the second strap may be constructed of an elastomeric material such as rubber. A debris cover may be operatively connected to a front surface of the frame, with a portion of the debris cover positioned above at least a portion of the track so as to inhibit individual pieces of baled material from contacting the flap assembly and/or the track.
