Abstract: In at least one embodiment, a system for authorizing use of a vehicle communication and information system may include one or more data processors configured to receive information associating one or more devices with a vehicle computer. The data processor(s) may be also configured to receive information identifying a user requesting authorization to command the vehicle controls from the one or more devices associated with the vehicle computer. The user(s) may be authorized to command the vehicle controls from the one or more devices associated with the vehicle computer based on performing an authentication process for authenticating the user, determining that the user is an authenticated user based on the authentication process, and enabling command of one or more vehicle controls from the one or more remote devices via the associated vehicle computer based on the user being authenticated.

Abstract: A method begins by a dispersed storage (DS) processing module traversing multiple index structures based on search criteria to identify an object retrieval structure. The method continues with the DS processing module retrieving a set of encoded data slices corresponding to the object retrieval structure from a dispersed storage network (DSN) and decoding the set of encoded data slices in accordance with a dispersed storage error coding function to recover the object retrieval structure. The method continues with the DS processing module identifying one of one or more data version records of the recovered object retrieval structure based on the search criteria to produce an identified data version record and determining DSN addressing information for at least a portion of data based on information of the identified data version record.

Abstract: A system for removing ammonia from wastewater includes a series of interconnected reactor tubes that each comprise an outer cathode and an inner cathode that is centrally positioned within the outer cathode to form a spacing of between 3 mm and 10 mm through which wastewater may flow. At least one of the reactor tubes includes an inner cathode having a MMO coating. Hypochlorite or another chlorine based element can be supplied to wastewater prior to passing through the reactor tubes. The presence of the hypochlorite within the wastewater and the generation of chlorine by the MMO coated cathode result in an increased level of hypochlorite being present in the wastewater which speeds the breakdown of ammonia. A portion of the wastewater processed through the reactor tubes can be diverted through a feedback path to the input to the reactor tubes to increase the amount of hypochlorite present in the unprocessed wastewater.

Abstract: A method of fatigue testing a component comprising the steps of machining a channel of predetermined depth and predetermined width in a surface of a component, applying a salt solution into the channel in the surface of the component and heating the component to a suitable temperature to evaporate the solvent from the salt solution to deposit the salt in the channel in the surface of the component, placing the component in an atmosphere containing air and sulphur dioxide at a predetermined temperature for a predetermined period of time to precondition the grain boundaries, and fatigue testing the component. The method is useful for determining the fatigue life of gas turbine engine discs or gas turbine engine rotor blades particularly the firtree shaped disc posts or the firtree shaped rotor blade roots.

Abstract: Methods and devices for implementing subsystem or functional aspect restrictions on a wireless handheld communication device. Data defining geographical boundaries of a restricted operating area is stored on the device. The present position of the device is ascertained and a determination is made whether the device is located within the restricted operating area. A restriction on the subsystem or functional aspect is imposed when it is determined the device is within the restricted operating area. The subsystem or functional aspect restriction can be communicated to the device via a wireless communication network. Additionally, the restrictions and boundaries can be communicated to the device as part of an IT security policy.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method, apparatus, and system for providing an ability to contribute towards specific items may be provided. A consumer account may be created for a consumer and managed by a consumer account management system. A contribution to the consumer account may be received from a benefactor. Rules may be applied designating a purchase of specialty items which may be relevant to a particular disease or disorder at a given stage or treatment cycle of the disease or disorder. The specialty items may be associated with vendor systems. The benefactor's contribution may be credited to the consumer account. Sales transaction data and financial data may be received. Data regarding the specialty items, consumers, vendor systems, sales transactions, and the disease or disorder may be stored.

Abstract: Described herein are improved configurations for providing a stranded printed circuit board trace comprising, a plurality of conductor layers, a plurality of individual conductor traces on each of the said conductor layers, and a plurality of vias for connecting individual conductor traces on different said conductor layers, the vias located on the outside edges of the stranded trace. The individual conductor traces of each layer may be routed from vias on one side of the stranded printed circuit board trace to vias on the other side in a substantially diagonal direction with respect to the axis of the stranded printed circuit board trace. In embodiments, the stranded printed circuit board trace configuration may be applied to a wireless power transfer system.

Abstract: Methods of increasing the resistance of plants, in particular soybeans, to nematodes, in particular soybean cyst nematodes, are provided herein. The methods include increasing the expression of Glyma18g02580, Glyma18g02590 and/or Glyma18g2610 in cells of a plant and in particular in root cells of a plant to increase the resistance of the plant and plant cells to nematodes. The methods include increasing the expression using constitutive promoters or by increasing the copy number of the polynucleotides. Constructs for expressing these polypeptides, transgenic cells, transgenic plants and methods of generating the same are also provided. Methods of screening plant cells for resistance or susceptibility to nematodes are also provided.

Abstract: A user equipment is provided comprising: 1) transceiver circuitry configured to operate in cells associated with at least one radio access technology (RAT) network; and 2) a controller configured to perform neighbour cell searches. The controller is further configured to determine when the user equipment enters a first RRC state from a second RRC state. In response to the determination, the controller determines a time period since a most recent search of neighbour cells was performed. The first RRC state is one of at least: CELL_PCH, URA_PCH and IDLE. The second RRC state is one of at least CELL_FACH and CELL_DCH.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for sharing passwords from one user to another. In one embodiment, a system is provided. The system generates a password based on the phone number, resource, and an encryption method. The system then generates an encrypted resource, based on the email address, phone number, file, and the encryption method. The encrypted resource may then be decrypted using the password received from the second user, after successfully identifying the second user and the file, and allowing the second user to access the file using the web page.

Abstract: While a player is playing one game on a gaming machine, the systems and methods described herein recommend other games to the player based on the player's real time game play, if the player is anonymous. Upon the player selecting a different game, the system may automatically transfers the player's credits between games or gaming machines. Each gaming machine may carry out one or more game.

The polishing pad includes a polymeric matrix, the polymeric matrix having a polishing surface. In addition, polymeric microelements are distributed within the polymeric matrix and at the polishing surface of the polymeric matrix. The polymeric microelements have an outer surface and being fluid-filled for creating texture at the polishing surface. And alkaline-earth metal oxide-containing regions are distributed within each of the polymeric microelements paced to coat less than 50 percent of the outer surface of the polymeric microelements.

Abstract: The output of an avalanche photodiode (APD) comprises a “photocurrent” component comprising photon initiated events resulting from the interaction of photons with the APD and a “dark current” component comprising dark carrier events arising in the APD even when the APD is not exposed to light. Differences in the pulse height distributions of photon initiated events and dark carrier initiated events are used to statistically discriminate between photocurrent and dark current components of APD output.

Abstract: Disclosed are methods for creating, applying, using and retrieving profile information that includes attributes that may be stored separately from, or with, the content to which the profiles are being applied. In this manner, profiles can be shared in various environments and across various applications. Attributes that have corresponding attributes in other content can be applied to the other content, as long as each of the attributes is valid. In computer aided design applications, the profile can be stored in a profile repository embedded within the CAD model. In addition, profile controllers are disclosed which control the attributes of a profile that can be used with selected content and other content and send a notification that a profile is available for use by other content.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method includes establishing a road network model on which a plurality of simulated vehicles may be run. The method also includes setting up a plurality of scenarios under which vehicle driving conditions vary to be run on the road network model. The illustrative method includes receiving energy usage related data for a plurality of simulated vehicles run in at least one of the plurality of scenarios on the road network model. The method further includes calculating a total energy consumption for each of the vehicles. The method additionally includes repeating the receiving and calculating steps to determine how various elements of the road network model and scenarios effect vehicle energy consumption.

Abstract: Methods and systems for logging driving information associated with a vehicle when driven are disclosed. In one aspect, a mobile telecommunications device is provided that is adapted for installation to a vehicle and configured to log driving information associated with the vehicle when driven. The mobile device is arranged to register the start of a driving period during which the mobile device is installed to the vehicle and the vehicle is being driven by a driver. The mobile device is also arranged to process sensor data during the driving period to derive driving information associated with how the vehicle is driven. The mobile device is also arranged to store a selection of the driving information to a memory.

Abstract: A method for temporarily redirecting a customer's mail from a current mailing address to a temporary mailing address, includes: receiving a request to temporarily redirect the customer's mail; determining a first date to begin mail redirection and a second date to cancel mail redirection; redirecting a first type of mail to a temporary mailing address; instructing a delivery service provider to provide a package to the customer after the customer arrives at the temporary mailing address; instructing the delivery service provider to hold a second type of mail for a time period calculated based on the request; receiving a notification that the customer has arrived at the temporary mailing address; and informing at least one contact specified by the customer that the customer has arrived at the temporary mailing address.

Abstract: A system for transporting inventory items includes an inventory holder and a mobile drive unit. The inventory holder has a frame with device openings. The mobile drive unit is operable to dock with an inventory holder and undock with an inventory holder. When undocked from an inventory holder, the mobile drive unit is further operable to traverse a path from a first location to a second location. The path passes through at least a first device opening of the inventory holder such that the mobile drive unit passes beneath the inventory holder while moving along the path.
