    Abstract: A nanocomposite coating composition for use in the mitigation of whisker growth from a metallic surface (82) includes a polymer matrix (86) comprising a base polymer and insulating material nanoplatelets (85), for example clay nanoplatelets, within the polymer matrix (86). A conformal coating (84) for application to a metal surface (82) is formed from the coating composition. The conformal coating mitigates the spontaneous growth of whiskers (83), in particular tin whiskers, from the coated surface (82), reducing the risk of short-circuits caused by such whiskers bridging gaps within electronic devices. Methods are provided for the preparation of coating compositions and coatings.

    Abstract: A surgical implant comprises a core region and a porous surface region extending over at least part of the core region. The surface region has a predetermined pore volume fraction. A method of manufacturing a surgical implant comprises: (i) loading metallic powder having a predetermined particle size distribution around a pre-formed core in a sealable capsule; (ii) reducing pressure within the capsule to a predetermined pressure below atmospheric pressure; (iii) pressurising the capsule with a process gas to a predetermined pressure higher than the predetermined pressure of step (ii); (iv) sealing the capsule; (v) heating the pressurised sealed capsule at an elevated temperature and an elevated pressure for a predetermined time to produce an implant precursor; (vi) cooling the sealed capsule, and; (vii) heating the implant precursor for a predetermined time at an elevated temperature and a predetermined pressure below atmospheric pressure, whereby to generate porosity in the implant precursor.

    Abstract: There is herein described a camera mounting system for sports goals which is installed completely within at least one of the upright posts constituting the goal for the purpose of providing the viewer with a closeup view of activity within and adjacent the goal mouth itself. The upright post is hollow and has a cutout portion extending for approximately 270° and facing generally toward the opposite post. A television or motion picture camera is mounted for panning rotation on a fixed platform opposite the cutout which is provided with a transparent window cover. The operation of the camera controls and its rotation is effected remotely through electronic means.
