  • Patent number: 10369338
Abstract: An expandable tissue dilator for dilating tissue around a spinal column includes a housing and a shaft at least partially positioned distally of the housing and adapted to pierce a tissue around the spinal column. An expandable member attached to the housing expands around a portion of the shaft to dilate the pierced tissue in a single-pass dilation resulting in a reduction of any traumatic impingement of nerves or muscle tissue and reduction in procedure time.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 19, 2016
Date of Patent: August 6, 2019
    Assignee: GLOBUS MEDICAL, INC.
    Inventors: Andrew Berkowitz, Brian Flint

  • Publication number: 20190000561
Abstract: Methods may be provided to operate an image-guided surgical system using imaging information for a 3-dimensional anatomical volume. A pose of a probe that defines a longitudinal axis may be detected based on information received from a tracking system. A placement of a virtual implant for the 3-dimensional anatomical volume may be determined based on the pose of the probe and based on an offset from an end of the probe along the longitudinal axis, such that a trajectory of the virtual implant is in alignment with the longitudinal axis of the probe in the pose. After determining the placement of the virtual implant, the virtual implant may be adjusted in response to movement of the probe while maintaining the trajectory of the virtual implant.

  • Publication number: 20180325610
Abstract: Methods may be provided to operate an image-guided surgical system using imaging information for a 3-dimensional anatomical volume. A trigger can be detected based on information received from a tracking system regarding a probe. A pose of the probe can be detected based on the information received from the tracking system. A location in the 3-dimensional anatomical volume can be identified based on the pose of the probe and based on the imaging information. The location can be stored in memory based on detecting the trigger and detecting the pose of the probe.
