  • Patent number: 5629836
Abstract: A lever mechanism (1) for clamping a panel (3) to a housing has a support block (2) which, in use, is attached to a panel (3). A first lever (4) is pivotally connected to the support block (2), and arranged so that, in use, it can engage with the housing when in a first position and disengage from the housing when in a second position. A second lever (9) is pivotally mounted on the first lever, and arranged to hold the first lever in its first position by engagement with the support block. A spring or springs (8) biases the first lever towards the second position and/or biases the second lever towards the position in which it engages with the support block. The first lever (4) is mounted for translational movement relative to the support block (2) against the action of a further spring (15) to provide, in use, a predetermined clamp load between the panel (3) and housing.

  • Patent number: 4919580
Abstract: A two-part front mounted receptacle for a quick-release fastener is disclosed. The receptacle has a body part (10) having a first, substantially planar, front element (11) with an aperture (13) therethrough, and a pair of leg elements (14,18) depending from the ends of the front element (11). A first one (14) of the leg elements has a sprung barb or barbs (15) in use engaging the rear face of the support (30) in which the receptacle is mounted. The receptacle also has a substantially U-shaped spring retainer (20), one side (21) of which is arranged to be engaged and held to each of the legs of the body part and which projects beyond the end of the body part remote from the first leg (14), and the second side (22) of which has a retention mechanism (27,28) for engaging and retaining in use a stud (2) connected therewith.

  • Patent number: 4677714
Abstract: A one-piece receptacle (1) for a quick-release fastener, has a base portion (2) and a stud-retaining structure (4) connected to the base portion by a pair of resilient webs (3) substantially C-shaped in cross-section. The base portion has a cross-cut slot (8) in a plane transverse to the central axis of the receptacle. The C-shaped webs (3) are integrally connected to the base portion (2) in extension of a thin walled portions (2") closer to the stud-retaining structure (4). The slot (8) extends from one side of the receptacle across the central axis thereof, so that the opposing thin walled portions (2,2") of the base on opposite sides of the cross-cut slot (8) can engage opposite surfaces of the support member at an aperture in which the receptacle is to be mounted.

  • Patent number: 4619569
Abstract: A quick-release fastener comprises a threaded stud (11) and a complementarily threaded receptacle (1), the stud and receptacle each having one or more longitudinally extending threaded and unthreaded portions (15,8). The or each threaded portion (15,8) of the stud (11) and receptacle (1) respectively has a lesser angular width than the unthreaded portions of the receptacle and stud respectively. The fastener has at least one stop (9) at one edge of the or one of the threaded portions (8,15) on the stud or receptacle, whereby the stud can be inserted into the receptacle with the threaded (8,15) and unthreaded portions of the stud (11) and receptacle (1) respectively aligned and can thereafter be rotated to engage the respective threaded portions. The stop (9) prevents over-rotation of the stud (11) within the receptacle (1) thereby to define a fastened orientation of the stud within the receptacle.

  • Patent number: 4441843
Abstract: A quarter-turn fastener has a bolt having a head and a screw-threaded shank, and a retainer assembly threadably secured to the shank as a tight friction fit thereon. The retainer assembly has a pair of abutments for engagement with the rear of a support, through an aperture in which the retainer assembly locates in use. The retainer assembly includes at least one pair of stops for engagement with the sides of the aperture in the support or a corresponding aperture in a panel in which the fastener is mounted in use, to define the inoperative and operative positions of the retainer assembly. A compression spring is located in use between the retainer assembly and an opposed surface of the panel to retain the retainer assembly in its inoperative position under the action of friction, when the retainer assembly is disengaged from the support.

  • Patent number: 4262394
Abstract: The invention relates to a quarter-turn fastener for fastening a panel to a support, the fastener comprising an integrally moulded plastics stud having a head and a shank. The shank extends in use through elongate slots in the panel and support and is formed by a pair of depending resilient legs each of which has at its end remote from the head a transverse flange for engaging the rear surface of the support adjacent the slot in which the stud is mounted. Each leg includes an abutment arranged to engage the side of the slot in the support or in the panel after rotation of the stud through substantially a quarter of a turn to prevent further rotation in the same sense.

  • Patent number: 4261443
Abstract: In a vehicle disc brake of the single sided sliding reaction caliper type the drag on the friction pad assemblies is taken by a drag-taking member. The caliper is slidably mounted for movement relative to the disc on a guide in the form of a single pin which is located on the same side of the disc as that on which an actuator for the brake is located.

  • Patent number: 4194429
Abstract: The invention relates to a quarter-turn fastener comprising a plastics stud and a spacer, the stud having a head and shank. The shank has, at its end remote from the head, a cross-head and includes an abutment arranged to engage the side of an aperture through which the stud is mounted in use, on rotation of the stud through a quarter of a turn, to prevent further rotation in the same sense. The spacer is resilient and defines an aperture through which the shank of the stud passes in use, said spacer including a distance piece for preventing two members to be fastened together by said fastener, one situated on either side of the spacer, from coming into contact with one another adjacent said spacer.

  • Patent number: 4153284
Abstract: The invention relates to a pawl latch which comprises a bush having a head, and a latching arm spaced axially from the head and extending in a direction transverse to the axis of the bush. The latch includes at least one resilient leg positioned on a side of the bush opposite the latching arm and extending back towards the head. The latch is adapted so that it may be inserted in an aperture in a panel at an angle, latching arm first, and then pushed completely into the aperture until the underside of the head engages the front face of the panel and the resilient leg, having been deflected on being pushed through the aperture, springs out to engage the rear face of the panel. The latch is maintained in position in the aperture on the one side between the leg and the underside of the head and on the other side between the latching arm and the underside of the head.
