  • Patent number: 9404653
Abstract: A tinder storage container solar powered fire starter that includes top and lower housings that when coupled together form a water tight tinder storage cavity of which the inside bottom surface is a machined parabolic reflector that when used in conjunction with a tinder holder arm that securely positions the fire starting tinder at the exact focus of the reflective parabolic surface of the lower housing is able to use solar power to ignite combustible materials. The tinder holder arm is stowed in the top housing during non-use and incorporates a series of light through holes, and flex points, that provide maximum efficiency and quick positioning from stow configuration to fire starting configuration. The inside reflective inside surface of the top housing is a signal mirror, a lanyard hole is provided to prevent loss. An hour glass shaped air escape slot provides easy coupling of the top and bottom housings.

  • Patent number: 9364959
Abstract: A solar knife that is used as a cutting or chopping tool that includes handle scales that have reflective shallow parabolic outside surfaces that can be used to ignite combustible materials using solar energy. The solar knife has a tinder holder blue print machined into its surface and also has an angled tinder holder mounting hole. Using the tinder holder blue print on the invention and the cutting edge of the solar knife, the user can fashion a precision tinder holder in the field using a tree branch or twig. The fashioned tinder holder is then inserted into the tinder holder mounting hole which allows the tinder to be held firmly at the exact focus of the parabolic outside surface of the handle scales where it is ignited using only energy supplied by the sun. The solar knife also includes sacrificial anodes to minimize metal oxidation.

  • Patent number: 8887436
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a portable pocket survival snare that includes a manually windable wire snare within a low profile body assembly that incorporates a mounting loop. The storable manually windable wire snare is held in position within the body assembly, using a snap-mounted mounting ring assembly that is snapped into position around the outside perimeter of the body assembly. The mounting ring assembly is also used to position the pocket survival snare during use. The present invention also includes an escape proof sliding-locking noose and when used in conjunction with other elements of the present invention, engages automatically during operation. The wire snare is secured within the present invention using a press fit pin and then weaving the wire snare through a series of stress-relieving through-holes and non-stress-relieving through-holes that are incorporated into the invention.

  • Publication number: 20130095439
Abstract: In accordance with the present invention, there is provided . . . a flashlight firestarter that includes an illumination source, an electrically heated ignition source for igniting combustible materials, and a firestarting element protective cap that includes a magnetic insert, all housed in a hollow multi-section cylindrical body. The firestarting element protective cap can be magnetically attached to the base of the invention for storage during operation of the firestarting element. Battery supplied electrons are directed through a component cylinder that works in conjunction with other elements of the invention to form a high current, cylindrical, multi-contact, low friction, auto-isolation switching mechanism. The flashlight firestarter also includes safety and reference channels that are used as both visual and tactile references during operation and are also used to house an onboard safety clip that prevents operation of the flashlight firestarter during storage or transport.
