Patent number: 11156939Abstract: An image forming apparatus and method for determining a toner level and providing a notification are provided. The method of operating an image forming apparatus includes counting a number of times a lower toner hopper receives toner from an in-situ refillable upper toner hopper, calculating an estimate of toner volume transferred from the lower toner hopper to a surface of a photosensitive drum, determining an amount of toner consumed from the in-situ refillable upper toner hopper based on the number of times the lower toner hopper receives toner from the in-situ refillable upper toner hopper and the estimate of toner volume transferred from the lower toner hopper to the surface of the photosensitive drum, and generating an upper toner hopper refill notification when the amount of toner consumed from the in-situ refillable upper toner hopper is determined to exceed a threshold value.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2018Date of Patent: October 26, 2021Assignee: Hewlett-Packard Development Company, L.P.Inventors: Kenneth K Smith, Ji-Won Moon, Min-Chul Lee, Andrew Chick, Matthew Storey, Jefferson Blake West, Zackary Thomas Hickman, Eun-Kyung Yun, Yoona Min, Pratik Shah

Patent number: 8069529Abstract: A handheld vacuum cleaner including an inlet, an outlet, and a dust cup having an aperture. The dust cup is in fluid communication with the inlet and the outlet and is configured to retain debris collected by the handheld vacuum cleaner. A fan is configured to draw air through the inlet and the dust cup and to discharge air through the outlet. A door is adjacent to the dust cup and includes the inlet. The door is movable between an open position to allow a user to empty the debris collected within the dust cup through the aperture of the dust cup and a closed position to inhibit debris from being emptied through the aperture of the dust cup and to allow debris to be collected through the inlet and through the aperture of the dust cup. A biasing member configured to bias the door toward the open position.Type: GrantFiled: October 21, 2009Date of Patent: December 6, 2011Assignee: Techtronic Floor Care Technology LimitedInventors: Timothy Groff, Greg Pajak, Jack W. Gee, II, Andrew Chick, David Khalil

Patent number: 6843406Abstract: A method of joining metal and metal, or metal and ceramic parts, wherein a first metal part is selected and then processed to form a bond coat that will effectively bond to a sealing material which in turn bonds to a second metal or ceramic part without degrading under the operating conditions of electrochemical devices. Preferred first metal parts include alumina forming alloys from the group consisting of ferritic stainless steels (such as Fecralloys), austinetic stainless steels, and superalloys, and chromia forming alloys formed of ferritic stainless steels. In the case of chromia forming ferritic stainless steels, this bond coat consists of a thin layer of alumina formed on the surface, with a diffusion layer between the first metal part and this thin layer. The bond coat provides a good bonding surface for a sealing layer of glass, braze or combinations thereof, while at the same time the diffusion layer provides a durable bond between the thin alumina layer and the first metal part.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2002Date of Patent: January 18, 2005Assignee: Battelle Memorial InstituteInventors: Zhenguo Yang, Christopher Andrew Coyle, Suresh Baskaran, Lawrence Andrew Chick
