  • Publication number: 20160028879
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed. An active application, which is an application other than a phone application and an address book application, displays information. A selection is received of an information portion from within the displayed information, the information portion being other than a telephone number. Based on determining the pressing of the call-initiation key while the information portion is selected, and based on accessing contact information stored within the address book application without opening or displaying the address book application, a detected contact entry stored by the address book application is determined where the detected contact entry includes the information portion. A target telephone number associated with the detected contact entry is determined based on determining the detected contact entry. A call to the target telephone number is placed.

Abstract: Methods and devices for implementing subsystem or functional aspect restrictions on a wireless handheld communication device. Data defining geographical boundaries of a restricted operating area is stored on the device. The present position of the device is ascertained and a determination is made whether the device is located within the restricted operating area. A restriction on the subsystem or functional aspect is imposed when it is determined the device is within the restricted operating area. The subsystem or functional aspect restriction can be communicated to the device via a wireless communication network. Additionally, the restrictions and boundaries can be communicated to the device as part of an IT security policy.

  • Patent number: 9092293
Abstract: A system selects an application program for download. The system includes a host system, such as a personal computer, having a disk sub-system storing a plurality of application programs. The disk sub-system includes a file storing a plurality of identifiers, with each of at least some of the identifiers being associated with one or more of the application programs. A target system, such as a wireless handheld electronic device, includes a hardware identifier and a vendor identifier. A communications channel connects the host system and the target system. An application loader routine executes at the host system, communicates with the target system through the communications channel, requests the hardware and vendor identifiers as a received identifier from the target system over the communication channel, and employs the identifiers and the received identifier to select one of the application programs for download from the host system to the target system.
