  • Patent number: 12392862
Abstract: Techniques are provided for dynamic performance enhancement of radio frequency (RF) based systems. A system implementing the techniques according to an embodiment includes a waveform decoder configured to perform message decoding operations on a received RF signal waveform and to provide a decoding validation result for the message decoding operations. The system also includes a waveform attribute analyzer configured to analyze physical characteristics of the received RF signal waveform and to provide an attribute validation result for the physical characteristics. The system further includes a statistics analyzer configured to generate a statistic based on the decoding validation results and the attribute validation results and a thresholding system configured to generate anomaly detection based on a comparison of the generated statistic to a threshold value. In some embodiments, the RF signal waveform is an Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) transponder waveform or an IFF interrogator waveform.

  • Publication number: 20240414543
Abstract: A method for discriminating between spoofed and valid ADS-B tracks includes applying a plurality of spoofing detection tests to an ADS-B waveform, applying weighting factors to the resulting test scores, and combining the weighted scores to obtain a confidence level indicating whether the ADS-B track is valid or spoofed. The detection tests can include power level validation, Doppler offset, ADS-B rules-based analysis, multi-band detection, track origination detection, and antenna diversity. The selection of applied detection tests and/or weighting factors can be adjusted and/or selected from corresponding libraries, according to operating conditions. Tracks can be displayed together with confidence level indications, and/or excluded from display if their confidence levels are below an adjustable threshold. Weighting factors can be chosen and/or updated by a machine learning model according to success in detecting simulated and/or actual spoofed tracks.

  • Patent number: 11002847
Abstract: An identification friend or foe (IFF) transponder includes: an electronic receiver to receive encoded challenges from an IFF interrogator; a processing circuit including a decode circuit to decode the received challenges into encrypted challenges using a time of day (TOD) and/or a cryptographic key, a decrypt circuit to decrypt the encrypted challenges into challenges using the TOD and/or the key, a reply circuit to generate replies to the challenges, and an encode circuit to encode the generated replies using the TOD and/or the key; an electronic transmitter to transmit the encoded replies to the IFF interrogator; and an alert circuit to detect the encrypted challenges from the received challenges without using the TOD or the key, use the detected challenges to determine if the TOD is incorrect and/or the key is wrong, and issue an alert in response to determining the TOD is incorrect and/or the key is wrong.
