  • Patent number: 5914962
Abstract: An MPEG multiplexed data transmission system accepts data from N program sources that are asynchronous and that have different data rates and multiplexes them into a common data stream. N buffers corresponding to the N program sources are provided along with a filler buffer that supplies a filler MPEG data packet when none of the N buffers includes a complete packet of data. An algorithm is described that modifies the fullness of the individual N buffers by a factor that comprises the program rate multiplied by an empirically determined constant K. The arrangement optimizes jitter introduced by multiplexing the programs.

  • Patent number: 5905732
Abstract: An MPEG multiplexed data transmission system accepts data from a plurality of sources and supplies them, on a packet basis, to a common data stream. The non uniform jitter experienced by the packets is determined by subtracting the average delay for packets in a program from the current packet delay. PCR packets have their time base extracted, corrected for the calculated non uniform time delay and replaced as the PCR packet is supplied to the common data stream.
