  • Patent number: 7542974
Abstract: A method is disclosed to store, retrieve, and search both analog data and digital data. The method encodes information comprising a plurality of analog datasets in a holographic data storage medium to form an encoded holographic data storage medium, and further encodes digital data abstracted from the plurality of analog datasets to one or more of a plurality of non-holographic data storage media. The method then selects an analog dataset, wherein digital data abstracted from that analog dataset is written to a digital storage address on the one or more non-holographic data storage media, and illuminates the encoded holographic data storage medium with an analog dataset beam comprising the analog dataset. The encoded holographic data storage medium emits a dataset reference beam that strikes the second optical detector at one or more dataset reference beam coordinates. The method then associates the analog dataset with the dataset reference beam coordinate and with the digital storage address.

Abstract: A method to store, retrieve, and search information is disclosed. The method encodes information comprising a plurality of datasets in a holographic data storage medium to form an encoded holographic data storage medium, and encodes that same information to one or more of a plurality of non-holographic data storage media. The method then selects a dataset comprising a portion of the information, where that dataset is written to a dataset storage address on the non-holographic data storage medium, and illuminates the encoded holographic data storage medium with a dataset beam comprising that dataset to produce a dataset reference beam, such that the dataset reference beam strikes the optical detector at one or more dataset reference beam coordinates. The method then associates the dataset with the one or more dataset reference beam coordinates and with the dataset storage address.

  • Patent number: 7477102
Abstract: A post-distortion method for cascading amplifier stages in a two-stage microwave power amplifier and a dynamic biasing method using back-end processing for correcting nonlinearity in the power amplifier output. A first or driver stage biased in a near-A region with low distortion is cascaded with a second or power stage biased in a near-C region with high efficiency. The amplitude and phase responses of the two stages compensate another to yield a more linear overall gain for the overall power amplifier. The dynamic biasing scheme modulates the source to drain voltages of the transistors used in the amplifier stages based on the harmonics in amplifier output in order to minimize the harmonics and correct non-linearity in the output.

  • Publication number: 20080126886
Abstract: A radio frequency identifier (RFID) active/passive tag is provided to identify failed sub-CRU and location within a higher level CRU. When an error occurs on the base blade or within one of the sub-CRUs, the embedded processor writes failure information to the RFID. RFID tags may also contain data identifying the locations, of the sub-CRUs of the blade. Thus, when there is a failure, the RFID may report the failed component as well as the location of a failed sub-CRU. Sub-CRUs may also include an embedded processor and RFID tag. When a service action is initiated to repair or replace a blade, the RFID tag may be read by a RFID reader. The RFID reader device may then present failure information, including the identification of the failed sub-CRU and other associated information to the operator. The RFID reader device may also request associated information from a server computer.

  • Publication number: 20080120251
Abstract: A method of operating a computer system includes storing, in the computer system, a database containing performance measure data regarding performance measures of a plurality of items. The method further includes inputting into the computer system a plurality of performance measure constraints. The method also includes modeling the performance measure constraints with a set of equations. The equations include a plurality of variables. Each of the variables corresponds to a respective one of the items. Each variable is, for example, to be assigned either the value “1” or the value “0”. The value “1” may represent a recommendation to take an action relative to the corresponding item in the portfolio and the value “0” may represent a recommendation to take another action. The computer system is used to solve the set of equations to generate one or more solutions that satisfy the performance measure constraints.

  • Publication number: 20070283419
Abstract: The present invention addresses the known vulnerabilities of Web site infrastructure by making an origin server substantially inaccessible via Internet Protocol traffic. In particular, according to a preferred embodiment, the origin server is “shielded” from the publicly-routable IP address space. Preferably, only given machines (acting as clients) can access the origin server, and then only under restricted, secure circumstances. In a preferred embodiment, these clients are the servers located in a “parent” region of a content delivery network (CDN) tiered distribution hierarchy. The invention implements an origin server shield that protects a site against security breaches and the high cost of Web site downtime by ensuring that the only traffic sent to an enterprise's origin infrastructure preferably originates from CDN servers.

  • Patent number: 7215221
Abstract: A compact amplifier output bias circuit is used as a broadband harmonic termination. The bias circuit is adapted as a harmonic termination circuit to produce an effective low impedance or act as a load at the signal harmonic frequencies while having the capability of supplying DC power to the amplifier stage, optionally, if needed. A pi network is coupled to an active device output and provides a low impedance at frequency bands above a frequency band of operation while allowing DC bias to be appliable to the active device output.

  • Publication number: 20060222293
Abstract: A method of mitigating the effect of deterministic (only slowly changing) pulse distortions along an optical fiber communications link transmitting a train of pulses, and apparatus for performing it. Plural copies of the pulse train are made and are all coherently added together with the original train after delaying each copy by a different amount. The amplitude and phase of each copy are independently adjusted, normally by a computer, to optimize the resulting pulse shape. The technique is capable of mitigating (not totally eliminating) distortions of diverse origin, including but not limited to polarization mode dispersion, chromatic dispersion, multiple reflections, and self-phase modulation, even if they interact with each other.

  • Patent number: 6744409
Abstract: A planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) to facilitate communications within a plurality of frequency bands is disclosed. The top plate of the PIFA is placed at a predetermined height above a ground plane and shorting pins are placed in contact between the top plate and the ground plane. The feed pin is placed a predetermined distance away from each of the shorting pins within the interior area of the top plate. The shorting pins provide the ability to tune the PIFA to achieve either class-F or inverse class-F impedances over a wide range of frequencies. Also disclosed is an offset top loaded monopole (TLM) in which the feed pin connected to the top plate is offset from the centre of the top plate to provide a desired impedance.

  • Patent number: 6247541
Abstract: A method for replacing an old drive pipe in a slot on an offshore platform. The old drive pipe is first cut to provide an upper portion and a stub portion which remains firmly embedded in said marine bottom. Next, a guide cable is affixed to the stub portion of the old drive pipe and extends to the platform. The upper portion is then retrieved to the surface. A new drive pipe which carries a whipstock at its lower end is then made-up and lowered over the guide cable until the whipstock engages the stub portion where the new drive pipe is then diverted by the whipstock into a different path from that of the old drive pipe.
