  • Patent number: 9776456
Abstract: A racing tire comprising a tread having a new tread thickness of no greater than about 0.375 inch. The tread defines a running surface that includes a first circumferential portion of a first rubber compound and a second circumferential portion of a second rubber compound situated adjacent one another. The first rubber compound has a greater stiffness than the second rubber compound so as to provide the tread with greater wear resistance along the first circumferential portion, and the second rubber compound provides the tread with greater traction along the second circumferential portion. The tread may be substantially free of a tread pattern. The second rubber compound may have a greater DIN abrasion value than the first rubber compound. The second rubber compound may have a higher tan delta at 100° C. and/or a higher J? traction value than the first rubber compound.

Date of Patent: October 3, 2017
Assignee: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company
Inventors: Paul Harry Sandstrom, Andrew Frederick Weimer, Richard Barkley Campbell, Thomas Charles Lippello, III, Mark Alan Keto, Larry Alan Kraus, Steven Wayne Cronin

  • Publication number: 20100059156
Abstract: A pneumatic tire having a tire tread, the tread comprising grooves therein, the grooves forming tread elements, the tread having a radially outer surface and a non-skid tread depth as measured from the radially outer surface of the tread, and a radially innermost surface of the grooves, and one or more sunken grooves located radially inward and below the surface of the unworn tread, the tread comprised of a base tread compound, a radially outer compound, and a radially inner compound, wherein the intersection of the radially outer compound and the radially inner compound is wavy.

  • Patent number: 7249620
Abstract: A tire with a changing tread pattern is formed by first forming a tire having a tread, the tread having at least one circumferential or lateral groove. A wearable filler, having a configuration corresponding to at least a portion of the circumferential or lateral groove formed in the tire, is located in the radially outer portion of the circumferential or lateral groove or a portion of the circumferential or lateral groove, and secured within the grooves so as to create a groove void radially inward of the wearable filler, the void being exposed upon wear of the tire tread.
