Abstract: A removable facial interface for a head-mountable device (HMD) is disclosed. In an example, an HMD includes a display; a facial interface frame at least partially surrounding the display; a removable facial interface attached to the facial interface frame; a first attachment mechanism attached to one of the facial interface frame or the removable facial interface; and a second attachment mechanism attached to the other of the facial interface frame or the removable facial interface, the removable facial interface being attached to the facial interface frame by the first attachment mechanism and the second attachment mechanism.

Abstract: An electronic device can include a band that having a bifurcated rear portion. The bifurcated rear portion can include an upper elongate structure and a lower elongate structure that extend between bifurcation points of the band. In one example, each of the upper and lower elongate structures includes an outer tube, one or more inner tubes at least partially disposed within the outer tubes, and a biasing member, such as an elastic cord, disposed within both the upper and lower elongate portions. The inner tubes can be anchored to another portion of the electronic device such that the outer tubes, which slidably engage respective inner tubes, can be moved or pulled backward from the inner tubes and the display portion to adjust the size of the band.

A headband is connected to a first lateral side and a second lateral side of the device housing and extends around a head of a user to support the device housing with respect to the user. The headband is configured to apply a moment to the device housing in a direction that urges the upper portion of the facial interface toward a head of user so that a first loading that is applied to the head of the user by the upper portion of the facial interface is higher than a second loading that is applied to the head of the user by the lower portion of the facial interface.

The head support includes a band and an adjustment mechanism coupled to the band to lengthen the head support. The adjustment mechanism includes a base and a spool coupled to the base, a tape that extends from the adjustment mechanism through the band, and one or more springs rotatably coupled at first ends to the spool and fixedly coupled at second ends to the tape. The springs apply force to the tape to maintain the tape in tension during expansion and retraction of the band.
