    Abstract: An electronics rack with an electrically controlled access panel, including an enclosure including a base, side walls and a top, with at least one opening in a sidewall or the top for accessing the interior of the enclosure. At least one panel is mounted to the enclosure for permitting controlled access to the interior. At least two electronically controlled hinges are mounted to opposite sides of the panel. Each hinge has a hinge axis about which the panel can rotate when the panel is unlocked, the hinge axes of the two hinges being parallel to one another. Each hinge includes a hinge pin that is slidable in a housing between a retracted position and an extended position. Each hinge includes an electronically controlled drive mechanism for controlling reciprocation of the hinge pin.
