  • Publication number: 20100034975
Abstract: This invention provides an aqueous polymeric dispersion, the polymer including, as polymerized units: from 0.1 to 10%, by weight based on the weight of the polymer, monomer selected from the group consisting of strong carboxylic acid monomers, sulfonic acid monomers and phosphorous-containing acid monomers, and from 0.01 to 3%, by weight based on the weight of the polymer, a moiety including the structure, wherein X?CY, N, or P and Y, independently ?H, C, N, O, Cl, Br, F, Si, S, or P. Also, a method for forming the aqueous polymeric dispersion and a method for providing a coating having improved adhesion to a substrate, particularly to a metal substrate, is provided.

  • Publication number: 20090318596
Abstract: The present invention provides compositions that enable excellent early hardness development in coating applications, the compositions comprising a blend of one or more copolymer, pA, having a Tg of 20° C. or higher, and one or more polyurethane copolymer in aqueous dispersion, pB, together with one or more additive chosen from a coalescent having a normal boiling point of from 150° C. to no greater than 300° C., a naturally derived plasticizer, and mixtures thereof. The polyurethane copolymer comprises at least 40 wt. %, based on the weight of polyurethane solids, of: (i) a first polyol having a molecular weight of at least 850, wherein the first polyol is a polyether polyol, or (ii) a second polyol chosen from a polyester, a polycaprolactam, a polycarbonate and a combination thereof, wherein the second polyol has a molecular weight of at least 1,500, or (iii) a combination of one or more first polyol and one or more second polyol. The compositions may be ambient curable.

  • Publication number: 20050261451
Abstract: The invention provides novel organometallic complexes useful as olefin metathesis catalysts. The complexes have an N-heterocyclic carbene ligand and a chelating carbene ligand associated with a Group 8 transition metal center. The molecular structure of the complexes can be altered so as to provide a substantial latency period. The complexes are particularly useful in catalyzing ring closing metathesis of acyclic olefins and ring opening metathesis polymerization of cyclic olefins.
