When the client device detects a known or trusted mobile device in proximity, it enters a hotspot mode. The hotspot network parameters are provided to the mobile device. In one embodiment, the network parameters include a network ID and password. Using the network parameters, the mobile device joins the hotspot provided by the client device. Once wirelessly networked, the mobile device can request video data from the client device. The client device generates hierarchical playlists and provides them to the mobile device. The mobile device uses the playlists to access video files stored in the buffer of the client device continuously and without interruption.
