    Abstract: Processes for oxidative pretreatment of carbohydrate dehydration products are disclosed, which relate to the discovery that functional groups of humins, such as those that result in, or lead to, color formation (e.g., aldehyde groups and/or groups having conjugated double bonds) may be more readily converted by oxidation (in some cases “bleached”) than FDCA-forming furanics. This selective oxidation of humins may use milder oxidation conditions and/or a different reaction system, compared to respective conditions and systems used for oxidation of furan ring-containing compounds. Oxidative pretreatment can beneficially promote the selective oxidation of humin functional groups over FDCA-forming furanics, with the overall result of modifying humins in a manner that can provide a number of improvements.

    Abstract: Processes for the oxidation of carbohydrate dehydration products, such as furanics that can be oxidized to the bio-based monomer 2,5-furandicarboxylic acid (FDCA), are disclosed, according to which certain co-feeds, having been discovered to impart a beneficial reaction stabilizing effect, are oxidized together with the carbohydrate dehydration products. This can advantageously counteract, in whole or in part, detrimental effects of humin impurities present in oxidation feed, with such impurities having been generated as byproducts of the upstream dehydrating step. An important co-feed is para-xylene that can be co-oxidized to form the petroleum-based monomer terephthalic acid (TPA), such that co-processing can beneficially yield two valuable monomers, while improving performance, particularly in terms of reaction stability, over comparable processes in which only the first monomer is produced.

The seal is provided with at least a notch that defines at least a movable portion such as a wing or a lip. An e-ring is provided for a first energizing of the seal. The movable portion enables pressurized fluid from beneath the seal to cause the movable portion to protrude further against a mating side in the wellhead and the hanger for a second energizing of the seal. This type of seal maintains or improves the sealing of the wellhead in high pressure applications. Methods applied to the above seal are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A system is disclosed as including an enclosed space within a seal for sealing an area between a hanger and a housing of a wellhead. The enclosed space traverses a first section of the seal, a middle section of the seal, and an opening at a second section of the seal. A port is provided as accessible from the housing. A tool positions the seal within the hanger and the housing so that the port is able to access the enclosed space from the housing to the hanger. A pressure applicator applies fluid into the port at a pressure, which is monitored to determine integrity of the seal. In a monitoring mode, a pressure is monitored at the port. A change in the pressure from an ambient pressure at the port may indicate an on-going issue with the seal. Methods applied to the system are also disclosed.
