  • Patent number: 8971892
Abstract: A user equipment capable of performing reselection in a wireless network is disclosed. The user equipment comprises: 1) a controller configured to perform reselection between cells according to a priority-based reselection (PBR) algorithm using priority information; 2) transceiver circuitry configured to operate in cells using at least one radio access technology and to receive incoming messages including the priority information; and 3) a memory configured to store the received priority information. The controller is further configured to compare the received priority information with defined limits stored in the memory and to determine if the received priority information exceeds the defined limits.

Inventors: David P. Hole, Andrew J. Farnsworth, Raghavendra M. Rangaiah
  • Patent number: 8934899
Abstract: A user equipment is provided comprising: 1) transceiver circuitry configured to operate in cells associated with at least one radio access technology (RAT) network; and 2) a controller configured to perform neighbor cell searches. The controller is further configured to determine when the user equipment enters a first RRC state from a second RRC state. In response to the determination, the controller determines a time period since a most recent search of neighbor cells was performed. The first RRC state is one of at least: CELL_PCH, URA_PCH and IDLE. The second RRC state is one of at least CELL_FACH and CELL_DCH.

  • Publication number: 20130303165
Abstract: A user equipment is configured to operate in an E-UTRAN network. The user equipment comprises: i) a controller configured to perform reselection between cells using dedicated priority information; ii) transceiver circuitry configured to operate in cells using at least one radio access technology and to receive incoming messages including the dedicated priority information; and iii) a memory configured to store the dedicated priority information. The controller is further configured to establish an RRC-Connected state and to perform a cell reselection using the dedicated priority information subsequent to establishing the RRC-Connected state.

  • Patent number: 7899461
Abstract: A method and apparatus for processing a message in a mobile, telecommunications device. The method comprises: receiving a Cell Update Confirm (CUC) message; determining whether the device has an empty C_RNTI variable; when the device has an empty C_RNTI variable, determining whether the CUC message includes a new C_RNTI; when the CUC message includes a new C_RNTI and the CUC message would cause the device to enter a state which requires the UE to respond to the message before entering the state, carrying out at least one further step prior to entering the state.
