  • Publication number: 20120066964
Abstract: Exhaust emissions resulting from the combustion of hydrocarbon fuels in compression ignition engines may be reduced using a homopolymer that may be polyisobutylene, polypropylene, and/or hyperbranched polyalpha-olefins. The homopolymer may have a molecular weight of from about 1600 to about 275,000. Optionally, an alkyl nitrate such as 2-ethylhexylnitrate (2EHN), and/or a peroxide, such as hydrogen peroxide, may also be used together with the homopolymer. Both NOx and particulate matter emissions (PM) may be reduced using ppm quantities of the additive compositions; alternatively, NOx emissions may be lowered or reduced while PM emissions do not substantially increase.

  • Publication number: 20070234637
Abstract: A fuel for use in a jet engine may be prepared by admixing a hydrocarbon fuel and a first additive selected from the group consisting of ethoxylated alkylphenol formaldehyde resins, maleic anhydride alpha olefin copolymers and mixtures thereof and a second additive comprising an admixture of platinum group and cerium compounds. The jet fuels including the additives may be used in jet engines where it is desirable to have reduced concentrations of particulates in exhausts, particularly when the jet engines are running at cruise speed.

  • Patent number: 6129772
Abstract: It has been discovered that compositions which are blends or mixtures including a monomeric fatty acid component can serve as stable lubricity additives in distillate fuels, including gasoline. The compositions may include saturated or unsaturated, monomeric fatty acids having from 12 to 22 carbon atoms; a synthetic monomeric acids having from 12 to 40 carbon atoms; and saturated or unsaturated, oligomeric fatty acids having from 24 to 66 carbon atoms. Where a saturated monomeric fatty acid is used, a hindered and/or tertiary amine may be present as a stabilizer.
