  • Patent number: 7248904
Abstract: A mobile station including a cover assembly and a wireless telecommunications signal receiving and generating assembly. Included in the cover assembly is a belt that substantially extends around the signal receiving and generating assembly, and a connector to hold the belt closed about the signal receiving and generating assembly. The belt includes a pair of side edges which define side openings through which the signal receiving and generating assembly can be accessed. Advantageously, the belt is easily exchanged with other belts so as to vary the appearance of the mobile station. Further, the side edges are easily gripped by a user holding the mobile station. In another aspect, the belt includes an integrated key pad which overlies a plurality of key contacts of the signal receiving and generating assembly.

  • Patent number: 7224945
Abstract: A mobile station for receiving and generating wireless communications signals. The mobile station includes layers of translucent materials each having a visual characteristic and overlapping portions that define another visual characteristic. The layers can be used to define keys overlying pressure sensitive regions of a wireless communications signal processing assembly (e.g., dome contacts on a printed wiring board). Keys constructed of two layers have a first and second visual characteristics defined individually by the first and second layers, respectively, and a composite visual characteristic defined by the overlapping portions of the layers. For instance, the first and second visual characteristics may be two different colors that in the overlapping region form a composite color that is aesthetically attractive and distinguishes that portion of the key for easy identification during use.

  • Patent number: 6988910
Abstract: The present invention addresses the above needs and achieves other advantages by providing a mobile station of the present invention. The mobile station includes a wireless telecommunications signal processing assembly contained within a housing. In addition, the mobile station includes a grip flange that has a peripheral edge extending around the housing so that the housing is contained within the peripheral edge. A body of the grip flange is attached to at least one portion of the housing, allowing the grip flange to be easily gripped by the user for carrying the mobile station. The grip flange may also include an inner edge that defines an opening in which the housing is positioned wherein portions of the inner edge are spaced from the housing to allow the user to grip the flange with a closed grasp.

  • Publication number: 20030142070
Abstract: A compact device and method for communication and entertainment needs that include combining various functions performed by different keypads and units into a single pad or unit. The device includes circuitry with transceiver capabilities, a chassis, a display, two arms secured to the chassis that can rotate from an open position to a closed position, and a user-interface that provides the user with navigational control and image conversion. The method for reducing the number pads on a keypad of the device, which has the circuitry, includes providing a chassis for securely holding the circuitry, securing a user-interface to the chassis, coupling the user-interface to the circuitry, limiting rotation of the user-interface to a first range of rotational motion using a locking mechanism to provide navigational control, and releasing the locking mechanism to allow rotation of the user-interface beyond the first range of rotational motion to provide image conversion.

  • Patent number: 6542354
Abstract: A compact device and method for communication and entertainment needs that include having interchangeable user-interfaces and combining various functions performed by different keypads and units into a single pad or unit. The device includes circuitry with transceiver capabilities, a chassis, a display, at least two Freestyle User-Interfaces (FUI) secured to the chassis that can rotate from an open position to a closed position, and a user-interface that provides the user with navigational control and image conversion. The method of interchanging at least two FUIs includes providing a chassis for securely holding the circuitry, rotatably securing the user-interfaces to the chassis, coupling the user-interfaces to the circuitry, and removably securing opposite ends of an elastic piece to each of the user-interfaces.
