Publication number: 20100229002Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for embedding information in software and/or other electronic content such that the information is difficult for an unauthorized party to detect, remove, insert, forge, and/or corrupt. The embedded information can be used to protect electronic content by identifying the content's source, thus enabling unauthorized copies or derivatives to be reliably traced, and thus facilitating effective legal recourse by the content owner. Systems and methods are also disclosed for protecting, detecting, removing, and decoding information embedded in electronic content, and for using the embedded information to protect software or other media from unauthorized analysis, attack, and/or modification.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 20, 2010Publication date: September 9, 2010Inventors: William G HORNE, Umesh Maheshwari, Robert E. Tarjan, James J. Homing, W. Olin Sibert, Lesley R. Matheson, Andrew K. Wright, Susan Owicki

Patent number: 7779394Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for protecting a computer program from unauthorized analysis and modification. Obfuscation transformations can be applied to the computer program's local structure, control graph, and/or data structure to render the program more difficult to understand and/or modify. Tamper-resistance mechanisms can be incorporated into the computer program to detect attempts to tamper with the program's operation. Once an attempt to tamper with the computer program is detected, the computer program reports it to an external agent, ceases normal operation, and/or reverses any modifications made by the attempted tampering. The computer program can also be watermarked to facilitate identification of its owner. The obfuscation, tamper-resistance, and watermarking transformations can be applied to the computer program's source code, object code, or executable image.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2005Date of Patent: August 17, 2010Assignee: Intertrust Technologies CorporationInventors: James J. Homing, W. Olin Sibert, Robert E. Tarjan, Umesh Maheshwari, William G. Home, Andrew K. Wright, Lesley R. Matheson, Susan Owicki

Patent number: 6985885Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for pricing, selling, and/or otherwise distributing electronic content using auction mechanisms. A randomized auction mechanism is used to determine both the number of goods that are sold and the selling price. The auction mechanism automatically adapts to the bid distribution to yield revenue that is competitive with that which could be obtained if the vendor were able to determine the optimal fixed price for the goods. In one embodiment a set of bids is randomly or quasi-randomly partitioned into two or more groups. An optimal threshold is determined for each group, and this threshold is then used to select winning bids from one or more of the other groups. In another embodiment, each bid is compared to a competing bid that is randomly or quasi-randomly selected from the set of bids. If the bid is less than the randomly-selected competing bid, the bid is rejected. Otherwise, the bid is accepted and the bidder buys the auctioned item at the price of the randomly-selected bid.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 2000Date of Patent: January 10, 2006Assignee: Intertrust Technologies Corp.Inventors: Andrew V. Patent number: 4720958Abstract: A system for aligning and packing substantially flat objects moving on a conveyor line in irregularly spaced and, nonaligned rows includes a mechanism for separating the rows and aligning the objects and also for feeding the aligned objects onto another conveyor. A packing mechanism transfers the aligned objects from a loading area to a container. An additional device places a strip of protective material on top of the layer of objects. A moving means vertically moves the container a distance substantially equal to the thickness of the object being packed in preparation for the reception of an additional layer of objects. Another transfer device moves the filled container from the loading area and replaces it with an empty container. Another transfer moves the filled container to provide room for the next container and an additional device transfers a supply of empty containers in preparation for another container being placed in the loading area.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 1987Date of Patent: January 26, 1988Assignee: RCA CorporationInventors: Andrew K. Wright, Steven C. Forberger

Patent number: 4629934Abstract: The novel electron gun comprises, as in prior guns, a plurality of cathode assemblies and at least two spaced successive electrodes having aligned apertures therethrough for passage of a plurality of electron beams. The cathode assemblies and the electrodes are individually held in position from a common ceramic member. The ceramic member has a first major surface and an oppositely disposed second major surface with a metallized pattern formed on at least a portion of each major surface. The electrodes are attached to the first major surface, and the cathode assemblies are attached to the second major surface. A transition member is attached to the metallized pattern on the first major surface. The transition member includes a substantially flat first part and a second part electrically isolated from the first part.Type: GrantFiled: August 27, 1985Date of Patent: December 16, 1986Assignee: RCA CorporationInventor: Andrew K.
