Patent number: 11958749Abstract: The invention relates to methods of production of a silica concentrate from geothermal fluids. More particularly, although not exclusively, the invention relates to the production of a colloidal silica concentrate, colloidal silica or precipitated silica from high temperature geothermal fluids by ultrafiltration to produce size-specific silica colloids and step-wise concentration of silica to avoid precipitation or gelling.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 2020Date of Patent: April 16, 2024Assignee: GEO40 LIMITEDInventors: Andrew W. Mitchelmore, Michael T. O'Sullivan, John Lea

Patent number: 11591883Abstract: A tubing drain with a reusable body and a replaceable sacrificial burst element, the tubing drain comprising an annular body with a window and first and second connector ends, each connector end connectable to an end of tubing sections in a tubing string. The tubing drain also has an inner body insertable into the annular body, the inner body providing the replaceable sacrificial burst element. A burst profile in the inner body aligns with the window in the annular body and provides a burst element which may be configured to burst when a target pressure differential occurs across the burst profile, thereby draining fluids from the tubing string into the casing string.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 2020Date of Patent: February 28, 2023Assignee: Plainsman Mfg. Inc.Inventors: Tyler Jarret Dyck, Mark Andrew Lea-Wilson, Shane Tyler McAssey

Patent number: 11296240Abstract: A rectenna is used for full-wave rectification of infrared radiation to produce electricity. In the rectenna, a metallic grating overlies a semiconductor body. A tunnel barrier is interposed between each grating element and the semiconductor body. Each of the grating elements overlies a bridge pair consisting of a region of n+-doped semiconductor and a region of p+-doped semiconductor, both of which are embedded in more lightly doped host semiconductor material. Each of the two regions that compose the bridge pair forms a rectifying tunnel junction through a tunnel barrier to at least one overlying grating element. Each of the two regions also forms a semiconductor junction with the host semiconductor material.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 2019Date of Patent: April 5, 2022Assignee: National Technology & Engineering Solutions of Sandia, LLCInventors: Paul Davids, Andrew Lea Starbuck, Robert L. Jarecki, Jr., David W. Peters

Patent number: 10910508Abstract: A method is provided for fabricating a backside-illuminated photodetector in which a device wafer is joined to a readout wafer in an IC hybridization step. Before the IC hybridization step, the device layer is defined in the device wafer, and an LPCVD layer is formed over the device layer. The LPCVD layer may be a passivation layer, an antireflection coating, or both. The side of the device wafer having the LPCVD layer is bonded to a handle wafer, the IC is hybridized by mating the device wafer to the readout wafer, and the handle wafer is then removed, exposing the LPCVD layer. Because the LPCVD layer is formed before the active devices are fabricated, it can be made by high-temperature techniques for deposition and processing. Accordingly, a layer of high quality can be fabricated without any hazard to the active devices.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2019Date of Patent: February 2, 2021Assignee: National Technology & Engineering Solutions of Sandia, LLCInventors: Randolph R. Patent number: 9696492Abstract: A radio-frequency photonic devices employs photon-phonon coupling for information transfer. The device includes a membrane in which a two-dimensionally periodic phononic crystal (PnC) structure is patterned. The device also includes at least a first optical waveguide embedded in the membrane. At least a first line-defect region interrupts the PnC structure. The first optical waveguide is embedded within the line-defect region.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2016Date of Patent: July 4, 2017Assignee: National Technology & Engineering Solutions of Sandia, LLCInventors: Jonathan Albert Cox, Robert L. Jarecki, Jr., Peter Thomas Rakich, Zheng Wang, Heedeuk Shin, Aleem Siddiqui, Andrew Lea Starbuck

Publication number: 20140195979Abstract: A system and method for providing a selection interface on a touch screen device is disclosed. The selection interface depicts a claw for grasping. A progress indicator is provided by varying the motion of the claw. A completion indicator is also provided by depicting the claw in an open state or a closed state, and by moving the claw into a target region.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 10, 2013Publication date: July 10, 2014Applicant: APPSENSE LIMITEDInventors: Paul Keith BRANTON, Andrew LEA

Publication number: 20140165003Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for a slide-in menu that provides extended actions for grid layouts on touch screen devices. The slide-in menu provides a signposted visual interface object for user interaction with an application that is discoverable and usable and that provides several selectable options for touch-screen users, while requiring minimal screen real estate and retaining touch target sizes for individual screen controls that is appropriate for touch screen users. The slide-in menu may be augmented with an additional plurality of menu options and with a “more” button that displays the additional plurality of menu options.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 12, 2012Publication date: June 12, 2014Applicant: APPSENSE LIMITEDInventors: Paul Keith BRANTON, Andrew LEA, Richard James SOMERFIELD
