  • Patent number: 8337559
Abstract: The present invention relates to an expandable prosthetic implant device for engagement between vertebrae generally comprising an inner member, outer member, and gear member positioned coaxial with respect to each other such that the inner and outer members are moveable relative to each other along an axis. The gear member is axially fixed to the outer member and freely rotatable with respect to the outer member and the gear member threadedly engages a threaded portion of the inner member to translate inner member along the axis. The implant is configured to engage the vertebrae in a predetermined alignment and the gear member includes gear teeth exposed to the exterior and configured to be accessible by a tool member at a plurality of angular positions around the perimeter of the implant device.

  • Publication number: 20120323287
Abstract: An implant operable to alter morphology of a long bone can comprise a first longitudinal member, a second longitudinal member, and an adjusting member. The first longitudinal member can have a bone attachment end and a first connecting end. The second longitudinal member can have a second bone attachment end and a second connecting end. The adjusting member can connect to both of the first and second connecting ends. The adjusting member can be selectively moveable from a first implanted position where the first and second connecting ends are fixed to respective ends of the long bone and spaced apart a first distance to a second implanted position where the first and second connecting ends are fixed to the respective ends of the long bone and spaced apart a second distance. The second distance is less than the first distance causing a long bone to be compressed between the first and second bone attachment ends.

  • Patent number: 8290629
Abstract: A method and system are provided for airflow management in a data center. The data center includes network elements, sensors, and heating, cooling and ventilation (HVAC) equipment. The sensors measure climate conditions in the data center and provide an airflow management system with measurements that are utilized to determine which areas in the data center violate data center temperature thresholds and require more air capacity. The airflow management system increases the airflow to areas that contribute to the violation by controlling HVAC equipment to increase air movement or by selecting other areas in the data center or external to the data center that have excess capacity and routing the excess capacity to the areas that contribute to the violation.

  • Publication number: 20120214187
Abstract: There is a constant need for increased sensitivity of antibody-based assays as well as a need for high affinity antibodies. Higher affinity molecules such as antibodies increase the specificity and sensitivity of assays. Both increased sensitivity and higher affinity can be achieved when multiple copies of a binding molecule are coupled to a flexible backbone. According to one embodiment of the invention, multiple copies of a detection molecule, such as, for example, an antibody or antibody fragment, are covalently linked to a high molecular weight water soluble polymer creates multivalent antibody constructs. The affinity or avidity increases markedly as multivalency increases and also, multiple copies of a signal molecule can be similarly added to the polymer. Thus, the construct comprises multiple copies of detection and signal molecules on a high molecular weight, water soluble, flexible polymer.

  • Publication number: 20120166223
Abstract: Methods, computer systems and computer readable media for online authentication of an organization are provided. Authentication is accomplished by receiving a first set of patient specific attributes from an organization. This first set of attributes is obtained from an eligibility transaction between the organization and a payor for the patient. The first set of attributes is compared to a second set of attributes involving the same patient, where the second set of attributes is obtained from an eligibility transaction between the online service provider and the payor. If the first set of attributes matches the second set of attributes, the secure online service provider will be notified that the organization is authentic.

  • Patent number: 8195340
Abstract: A media, method, and data center power management system are provided to manage planned and unplanned data center power outages in a data center having network elements. During a planned outage, a remote device generates a request to simulate a power outage. The data center management system processes the request and suggests powering off one or more network elements based on a role associated with the network element and a measured power consumption associated with each network element. During an unplanned outage, the data center management system receives environmental data that triggers the generation of instructions to power off one or more network elements based on at least one of a calculated uptime associated with one or more backup generators, a role associated with each network element, and a power consumption associated with each network element.
