  • Patent number: 11342961
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for near field radio-frequency (RF) testing of devices, particularly user equipment (UEs) capable of millimeter-wave (mmWave) transmissions. An exemplary test apparatus is described that uses a transducer to facilitate near field over-the-air testing of UEs in the mmWave transmission band. The transducer may be an orthomode transducer and may include a dual-polarity port positioned in the reactive near field of an antenna of a device under test (DUT). For UE signal transmission tests, the orthomode transducer splits test signals received from the antenna of the DUT via the dual-polarity port into a pair of single-polarity RF signals. The single-polarity RF signals are separately fed through a pair of waveguide-to-coaxial adaptors into separate coaxial cables, which feed coaxial transmission versions of the single-polarity RF signals to test equipment for analysis. UE signal reception tests are also described that utilize the same or different orthomode transducer.

  • Publication number: 20060061552
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide devices and methods for movably connecting module layers of an electronic device to actuate one operational mode while limiting actuation of other modes. In one embodiment, an electronic device includes a first module layer movable in a first direction and a second module layer movably connected relative to the first module layer. Further, a third module layer is movably connected relative to the second module layer and movable in a second direction. Additionally, a limiting member is movably positioned relative to the module layers to be engageable with the third module layer to prevent movement in the second direction during movement of the first module layer in the first direction, or to be engageable with the first module layer to prevent movement in the first direction during movement of the third module layer in the second direction.

  • Publication number: 20060063569
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide devices and methods for providing versatile user interface for an electronic device. In one embodiment, the device includes a display and a plurality of modular layers, each deployable in a different direction. The method includes deploying one of the modular layers, detecting which one of the modular layers is deployed, and orienting information presented on the display based on the deployed modular layer. In one embodiment, the method provides for detecting which one of the module layers is deployed, and providing an operational mode based on the deployed module layer.

  • Publication number: 20060061943
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide devices and methods for movably connecting module layers of an electronic device to discretely actuate a first predetermined operational mode while locking out other predetermined operational modes. In one embodiment, for example, an electronic device includes a first module layer movable in a first direction and a second module layer movably connected relative to the first module layer. Further, a third module layer is movably connected relative to the second module layer and movable in a second direction. Additionally, a locking member is engageable with the third module layer to prevent movement in the second direction during movement of the first module layer in the first direction. The locking member may also be engageable with the first module layer to prevent movement in the first direction during movement of the third module layer in the second direction.

  • Publication number: 20050266893
Abstract: The hands-free car kit allows a mobile handset to enter and exit privacy mode without the user having to press a privacy button. The simple act of picking up the mobile handset out of its cradle switches the hands-free car kit from hands-free mode to privacy mode. When the mobile handset is installed in the cradle the hands-free car kit enters hands-free mode. If the mobile handset is removed from the cradle the hands-free car kit enters privacy mode.

  • Publication number: 20050104857
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide devices and methods for providing versatile keyboards for an electronic device. In one embodiment, the device includes a display and a plurality of input means, each deployable in a different direction. The method includes deploying one of a plurality of input means, detecting which one of the plurality of input means is deployed, and orienting information presented on the display based on the deployed input means. In one embodiment, the device includes a first module layer movable in a first direction and a second module layer movably connected relative to the first module layer. Further, a third module layer is movably connected relative to the second module layer and movable in a second direction.

  • Publication number: 20050104856
Abstract: An apparatus comprising: a display for presenting information to a user; a housing connected to the display for supporting the display; and a keyboard deployable through a sliding connection to the housing, the keyboard deployable in multiple directions, the information presented to the user through the display is oriented based on deployment of the keyboard, direction of deployment of the keyboard, and input from an application resident on the device. The application prescribes the orientation of the information presented on the display to the user in relation to the direction of keyboard deployment.
