  • Publication number: 20130203423
Abstract: A system and method for generating a calibration database in a communications network. A grid of geographic locations may be generated to cover a region in a communications network having a plurality of cellular sites. A set of network measurement reports (NMRs) is generated for the region, the NMR being a collection of measurement parameters observed at selected geographic locations in the grid. A label may then be generated representing a first measurement parameter observed from ones of the plural cellular sites at one of the selected geographic locations, the label including a relative ranking by cellular site of the first measurement parameter. Using this generated label, a calibration database for the communications network may be populated and locations of mobile devices determined therefrom.

  • Publication number: 20130189921
Abstract: A method and apparatus of mitigating multipath coupling interference in a wireless repeater system 10 includes measuring an error signal E(z) in a signal path of the repeater which contains the desired communication signals and the multipath coupling interference and determining a cepstrum cee[n] of the error signal E(z), wherein the cepstrum cee[n] is reflective of the open-loop gain G(z) of the system. The method further includes extracting the impulse response of the open-loop gain G(z) from the cepstrum cee[n] of the error signal E(z), calculating a plurality of cancellation filter coefficients using the extracted impulse response, and adaptively applying the plurality of filter coefficients to an adjustable filter to generate the cancellation signal necessary to mitigate the multipath coupling interference.

  • Publication number: 20130165145
Abstract: A method of modifying calibration data used to geo-locate a mobile station located in an indoor environment is disclosed. When a mobile station is located indoors, the signal strength of signals received and/or transmitted by the mobile station have the tendency to be lower than the strength of the signals received by a mobile station located outdoors. As a result of these lower signal strengths, geo-location efforts which rely on signal strengths may result in unsatisfactory location accuracy. Modifying pre-existing calibration data obtained outdoors may provide a way to simulate indoor calibration data characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20130143516
Abstract: A method is provided for processing emergency service calls from a user device to a PSAP, the user device having an associated line number and being configured to originate calls from fixed and mobile access networks. The method includes determining whether a call from the user device originates from a home location in a fixed access network. When the call is determined to have originated from the home location in the fixed access network, the call is routed to the PSAP, where a location of the user device is determined based on the Automatic Number Identification (ANI) included in signaling associated with the call. When the call is determined not to have originated from the home location in the fixed access network, adding pseudo-ANI to signaling associated with the call and routing the call to the PSAP, where the location of the user device is determined based on the pANI.

  • Publication number: 20130129009
Abstract: A distributed antenna system having improved data transmission features incorporates endpoints of the system, which are coupled together by serial data link. At the endpoints, processing may occur utilizing processing circuitry to determine similarities between multiple signal streams. If the streams are similar, the data sent over the serial digital link is reduced by only sending one of the representative signals. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, the difference between the signals might be sent as well. Alternatively, all signals might be sent, but may be compressed with compression circuitry before the signals are transmitted over the serial link. At the endpoint of the system, the signals are reconstructed for further processing and transmission.

  • Publication number: 20130122929
Abstract: A system and method for determining the location of a mobile device. One or more location measurement units (LMUs) or components may be requested to provide timing relationship information from a respective cell site. These LMUs may then be tasked to measure uplink times of arrival of signals received by the LMUs from a target mobile device. A response message from the target mobile device may be received, the response message having reference epoch frame information whereby a Global Positioning System (GPS) time estimate at the reference epoch that the target mobile device used to make GPS satellite measurements is determined as a function of the requested timing relationship information. Satellite information may then be determined using the determined GPS time estimate, and a location of the mobile device performed using this satellite information.
