  • Publication number: 20240316490
Abstract: A gas-liquid contactor for capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) from ambient air includes a flow system comprising: a top basin containing a CO2 capture solution, and a liquid distribution pipe in fluid communication with a turbine nozzle. A pump flows the CO2 capture solution to the turbine nozzle to emit a pressurized flow of the CO2 capture solution. A hydraulic fan comprises a shaft, a hydraulic turbine mounted to the shaft, and fan blades mounted to the shaft. The fan blades are positioned adjacent to an outlet, and the hydraulic turbine is positioned adjacent to the turbine nozzle and rotates upon the pressurized flow of the CO2 capture solution from the turbine nozzle impacting the hydraulic turbine. Rotation of the hydraulic turbine causes rotation of the fan blades, circulation of the ambient air through an inlet and circulation of a CO2-lean gas through the outlet. Related systems and methods are disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20220362707
Abstract: Techniques according to the present disclosure include capturing carbon dioxide from a dilute gas source with a CO2 capture solution to form a carbonate-rich capture solution; separating at least a portion of carbonate from the carbonate-rich capture solution; forming an electrodialysis (ED) feed solution; flowing a water stream and the ED feed solution to a bipolar membrane electrodialysis (BPMED) unit; applying an electric potential to the BPMED unit to form at least two ED product streams including a first ED product stream including a hydroxide; and flowing the first ED product stream to use in the capturing the carbon dioxide from the dilute gas source with the CO2 capture solution.

  • Publication number: 20220362737
Abstract: A packing for capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) from a dilute includes at least one panel that includes a mesh material configured to be wetted by a CO2 capture solution and that defines a gas channel having a first dimension defined along a first direction and a second dimension defined along a second direction different than the first direction, the gas channel configured to receive a flow of CO2-laden gas from the dilute gas source in the second direction and contact the flow of CO2-laden gas with the CO2 capture solution on the mesh material.
