  • Publication number: 20060109291
Abstract: A method for preparing a mask for multi-pass printing, comprises determining a characteristic satellite drop spray pattern for printing in a multi-pass mode with a printhead. Positions in the mask are filled with pass numbers. The pass numbers in a given position are selected based on considerations of interactions among main drops and satellite drops.

  • Patent number: 7016085
Abstract: Automatic testing determines whether a proofing-file generator and receiver are in a common intranet. If so then the proofing file is automatically sent by a route that is substantially wholly within the intranet, and ideally peer-to-peer. If the generator and receiver are not in a common intranet, then preferably the file is sent by a conventional route through the Internet, preferably via a master server of the proofing service. The test preferably includes dynamically establishing IP addresses for the generator and receiver, and comparing the established IP addresses; however, consultation of a pretabulated listing is also possible.

  • Publication number: 20060035350
Abstract: A process for extracting a wide range of lipophilic compounds from urea-containing solutions is described. The process utilises a near-critical fluid as the extraction solvent. The process is particularly applicable to the extraction of polyunsaturated fatty acids from the filtrate obtained upon urea fractionation, as employed in the processing of fish and other oils. In contrast to known processes, the lipophilic compounds may be extracted without the use of non-food grade solvents, and are suitable for pharmaceutical and cosmetic use.

  • Publication number: 20060022061
Abstract: A product 2 has a data encoding pattern 6 thereon. The pattern comprising a plurality of pattern cells 200 each of which has a pattern selected from a group of cell patterns. Each cell pattern comprises a plurality of cell elements 204 each of which can have any of a plurality of marking states, such that the marking states of the elements produce the cell pattern. Each cell pattern has at least two lines of symmetry.

  • Publication number: 20060024617
Abstract: A method of applying content and a data encoding pattern 18 to a product 10 comprises: applying the content 14 to a substrate 12; modifying the reflectivity of the content 14 at a predetermined wavelength; and applying the pattern 18 to the product, wherein the method is such that the pattern can be distinguished from the content at the predetermined wavelength.

  • Publication number: 20050207823
Abstract: A digital pen of the kind having means to sense and create a digital record of the use made of the pen and a memory in which the digitised record is stored also includes a reader for communication with memory tags by inductive coupling. The means to sense and create a digital record of the use made of the pen may include a camera. Preferably the reader for communication with memory tags is located at the opposite end of the pen from a nib for convention writing, and the pen includes a battery power supply.

  • Publication number: 20050188306
Abstract: A method of associating a first electronic document with a second electronic document comprising having a first physical paper identifier (130) having pen-readable coding (12) which codes for an identifier for the first electronic document, and reading the coding of the first electronic document with a pen (20) to acquire information enabling the identity of the first electronic document to be established, and communicating that identity to a computer processor (107), and using the processor (107) to associate the identified first electronic document with the second electronic document.

  • Publication number: 20020181017
Abstract: Conventional obstacles to entry and survival of small graphic-arts service providers are softened—particularly for those businesses that operate as computerized “ASP” enterprises involving wide-area networks—by encouraging small operators to coexist effectively in use of a pivotal network-based service. One key mechanism promoting this capability is a system of optionally mutual links between the pivotal service and the ASPs. The service also counteracts a tendency in the industry to favor wastefully redundant vertical integration. On the other hand, the system also implements the prerogatives of an enterprise (such as a printing-broker ASP) that has an established customer, to closely channel the attention of that customer—but subject, importantly, to being overruled by the customer. Ideally the system is carefully tuned to enable such customer action without unduly pressing the option upon the customer.
