Patent number: 11276508Abstract: Surrogate materials are in the form of solid particles that include surrogate isotopes, namely, short-lived isotopes selected and formed to serve as surrogates for the radioactive materials of a nuclear fallout without including isotopes that are, or that decay to, biologically or environmentally deleterious and persistent isotopes. The surrogate material may be formed using high-purity reactant material and irradiation and separation techniques that enable tailoring of the isotopes and ratios thereof included in the surrogate material, and the surrogate material may be dispersed, e.g., in a training environment, in solid form.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2018Date of Patent: March 15, 2022Assignee: Battelle Energy Alliance, LLCInventors: Kevin P. Patent number: 6934747Abstract: Each terminal of a computer network can monitor the activities of the other terminals or associated equipment such as a telephone and display these activities in visual and/or audible form. The display may be represented as a “virtual world”, and/or a generative music system such as “Koan”. The nature of the activities performed by the terminal itself also control the display, for example giving greatest prominence to those terminals engaged in similar or related activities. A terminal may be configured to act as a specified user's “base” terminal, to display the activity of the specified user, by identifying whether the specified user's identity is being used on another terminal. The activity of this terminal can then be displayed on the “base” terminal. The base terminal can therefore indicate the absent user's availability, level of activity, etc. to colleagues working nearby.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1999Date of Patent: August 23, 2005Assignee: British Telecommunications public limited companyInventors: Andrew McGrath, Peter M Platt, Jeremy M Bowskill, Jason Morphett, Alison J Willard

Publication number: 20010027920Abstract: A method and device for transferring an electrophoresis gel from a cassette to a carrier includes a tray having a dimension to receive a cassette and a carrier device. The tray has a bottom wall with a surface with channels or recesses formed by projections to reduce contact of an electrophoresis gel with the bottom wall of the tray. The projections are typically pyramid-shaped members extending to a peak having a small surface area to prevent the electrophoresis gel from adhering to the bottom wall. The bottom wall also includes a recessed area to receive the carrier so that the gel can slide easily from the cassette to open jaws of the carrier. A retaining arm extends from a side wall of the tray to hold the jaws of the carrier in an open position while the gel is being positioned between the clamping surfaces of the jaws.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 15, 2001Publication date: October 11, 2001Applicant: Large Scale Proteomics Corp.Inventors: N. Patent number: 5185521Abstract: Sensing apparatus based on the use of Raman spectroscopy for detecting the presence and location of a species of interest in a medium comprises a light transmissive optical fibre (4) with an elongate sensing length along at least a portion thereof, a light source means (1) for transmitting pulses of light along the fibre, and a detector (6) for detecting at the same end of the fibre as the light source Raman signals resulting from species (c) of interest at the interface of the sensing length and a medium in which it is located. The time difference between the transmission of an excitation pulse and detection of a Raman emission signal caused by that pulse is determined, and is used to determine the position of the species along the fibre.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 1990Date of Patent: February 9, 1993Assignee: Imperial Chemical Industries PLCInventors: Frank Kvasnik, Andrew McGrath
