  • Patent number: 8911408
Abstract: An infusion system for delivery of therapeutic fluids from a remote source into a patient's body. The system has an infusion assembly, a rotating pivot joint member, a fluid connector assembly, and a sealing assembly retained within the infusion assembly between the housing of the infusion assembly and the rotating pivot joint member. The seal reduces leakage of fluids. The rotating joint may be pivoted to three distinct positions to allow for emplacement on the patient, delivery of the therapeutic fluid to the patient, and protected, sealed closure of the fluid channels to avoid patient fluid backflow.

  • Publication number: 20140271257
Abstract: A refueling system for natural gas users (e.g., natural gas vehicles) includes a two-stage compression system that compresses low-pressure gas in a natural gas supply line to compressed natural gas (CNG) pressure for use by a user. A single motor drives both a first stage rotary compressor and a rotary hydraulic pump that powers a second-stage liquid piston compressor. The motor, first stage compressor, and pump may be co-axially aligned. Booster vessels store compressed gas to augment the system's compressed gas delivery flow rate when desired. The booster vessels may be recharged with compressed gas when the system is not delivering gas to a user. Hydraulic liquid may be pumped into and out of the booster vessels during booster vessel discharge and recharge, respectively, to maintain a desired pressure within the vessels.

  • Publication number: 20140277190
Abstract: A bone screw apparatus is provided for threaded engagement with a bone and, optionally, a medical device such as a bone plate. The bone screw has a shaft having a first end, a second end, and a first thread having a first pitch. The screw further includes a head having a proximal end, a distal end adjacent the shaft first end, and a second thread having a second pitch. The second thread has a variable pitch that increases in a proximal direction, but never exceeds the magnitude of any portion of the first pitch. Upon threaded engagement of the head with bone or a medical device, a compression force is generated which continuously decreases as the screw is further inserted.

  • Patent number: 8794941
Abstract: A positive displacement compressor designed for near isothermal compression. A rotor includes a curved sealing portion that coincides with a in an interior rotor casing wall. Liquid injectors provide cooling liquid. A gate moves within the compression chamber to either make contact with or be proximate to the rotor as it turns. Gate positioning systems position the gate in this manner, taking into account the shape of the rotor. Outlet valves allow for expulsion of liquids and compressed gas. The unique geometry and relationship between the parts provides for efficiencies and higher pressures not previously found in existing compressor designs.

  • Patent number: 8762634
Abstract: A method for efficiently restoring data from a sequential-access backup archive includes receiving a candidate list identifying data sets that are potentially contained within a sequential-access backup archive. The method further receives a filter list identifying data sets that are desired to be restored from the backup archive. Using the candidate list and filter list, the method generates a search list identifying data sets that are to be ignored when searching the backup archive. The method then sequentially performs multiple searches of the backup archive such that the multiple searches collectively perform a single pass through the backup archive. When performing these searches, each search begins from the last accessed portion of the backup archive and stops upon encountering a data set not explicitly ignored by the search list. A corresponding system, apparatus, and computer program product are also disclosed herein.

  • Patent number: 8742623
Abstract: A wearable device includes a sensor, auxiliary electronics, a primary power supply configured to harvest radio frequency (RF) radiation received from an external reader and use the harvested RF radiation to power the sensor, and an auxiliary power supply configured to harvest energy other than that received from the external reader and use the harvested energy to supply power to the sensor and/or the auxiliary electronics. The external reader may supply less power in response to operation of the auxiliary power supply. Additionally or alternatively, in response to a determination that the auxiliary power supply is unable to supply power, the wearable device may disable all auxiliary electronics but for the sensor. In response to a determination that the primary power supply is unable to supply power but the auxiliary power supply is able to supply power, the wearable device may retain operating parameters in the memory storage unit using the auxiliary power supply.

  • Publication number: 20140136614
Abstract: A user can author content, and submit such content to be posted within a social networking context, from an external service such that the user can undo the posting of such content without such content ever having been posted in the social networking context. Additionally, once such user-authored content is posted in the social networking context, the user is provided with a single action that can remove all relevant manifestations of such content. The submission of user-authored content, to a social networking service, from an external service is delayed while, simultaneously, such external service presents the user with an interface indicating that such user-authored content has already been submitted to the social networking service and posted thereon. Should the user select to undo the posting of such content prior to the expiration of the delay, the submission can simply never be performed.

  • Publication number: 20140136505
Abstract: A user interface providing results to a user's search also facilitates user interaction with their social network. Such interaction includes a search context by which individuals from the user's social network can perform an equivalent search or access equivalent search results. The user can select individual search results to be shared and, in response to a search query, the user is provided with responsive search results, and also identification of individuals, from the user's social network, that are responsive to the user's search query. The sharing of search results includes a search context, through which the individuals to whom such search results are shared can perform an equivalent search and be presented with equivalent search results. The sharing of search results also includes the provision of a social context within which such search results are being shared.

  • Publication number: 20140136546
Abstract: A user is provided with both identification of individuals who have authored content responsive to a user's search query and the authored content itself. A user's social network is referenced to identify those individuals to whom the user maintains human connections. Content authored by those individuals is searched and individuals authoring such content are identified, together with the authored content. Additionally, content authored by individuals having unique experiences, perspective, or specialized information is searched to identify responsive content and individuals authoring such content are also identified. An initial identification of responsive individuals comprises a portion of such content and user action directed to an identification of an individual results in additional authored content being presented, thereby enabling the user to recognize the reason for which such an individual was identified in response to the user's search query.
