  • Patent number: 9219934
Abstract: A method of controlling data transfer in a data transmission system which includes a plurality of video and/or audio data sources, a single transmitter operable to transmit data from the data sources over at least one transmission channel, a plurality of client receivers operable to receive transmitted data, the method comprising estimating available channel capacity for each client receiver, using parameters relating to the at least one transmission channel, and using information from the transmitter and receiver, and using information relating to queuing of data between the data sources and the transmitter; determining a target bit transmit rate for each client receiver in dependence upon the estimated channel capacity, a quality parameter, and an activity parameter for the client receiver concerned; and controlling the data sources and transmitter in dependence upon the determined bit transmit rate.

  • Publication number: 20150101003
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and system of transmitting video data and data to a plurality of client radio receivers over an air interface using an adaptive encoding/transcoding scheme and updating the adaptive encoding/transcoding scheme in dependence upon received feedback data. The invention further describes estimating channel states and distortion levels for a plurality of transmission modes, then selecting that transmission mode for subsequent data transmission that has the lowest distortion level. Control data items can be extracted from the first data stream to produce a multimedia data stream and a control data stream and the multimedia data stream is transmitted over a first channel; the control data stream is transmitted over a second channel.

  • Publication number: 20130257680
Abstract: An antenna assembly for a wireless communications device and/or system, the assembly comprising a first antenna having a first direction of maximum radiated power; and a second antenna having a second direction of maximum radiated power, wherein the first and second antenna are arranged such that the first and second directions are substantially mutually orthogonal. Also, provided is an antenna assembly having a third or more antenna having a third or further direction of maximum radiated power, wherein the third or more antenna is/are arranged such that the third or further directions is/are substantially orthogonal with the first and second directions.

  • Publication number: 20120027105
Abstract: There is provided a channel estimator for a receiver in a communication system, the channel estimator comprising an input for receiving signals that have been transmitted over a transmission channel; processing means for determining an initial estimate of the channel impulse response of the transmission channel from the received signals, the determined initial estimate comprising a plurality of taps; and determining a further estimate of the transmission channel from the initial estimate; wherein the processing means is configured to apply a weighting to a subset of the plurality of taps from the initial estimate in determining the further estimate, the value of the weighting being determined according to a quality of the received signals.

  • Publication number: 20090041149
Abstract: A wireless communication system, and a method of arranging such a system, comprising a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter includes first means for transmitting a first data stream multiplexed with a carrier wave having a wavelength? and second means for transmitting a second data stream multiplexed with the carrier wave. The receiver comprises third means for receiving the first and second data streams and for providing a first output signal and fourth means for receiving the first and second data streams and for providing a second output signal. The first, second, third and fourth means are arranged to substantially satisfy the equation: Formula (I) where d1,1 is the spacing between the first and third means, d1,2 is the spacing between the second and third means, J2,2 is the spacing between the second and fourth means, and J2,1 is the spacing between the first and fourth means.

  • Publication number: 20060074959
Abstract: A signal processing apparatus comprises a plurality of receiving elements, weighting means, and decoding means. Each of the receiving elements has respective weighting means associated therewith at the decoding means, and is arranged to receive a plurality of signals transmitted from a plurality of transmitters. The weighting means are arranged to apply a complex weighting function to each of a number of the signals received by the receiving elements at a given frequency in order to null the number of signals. The decoding means are arranged to determine a symbol or codeword associated with a non-nulled signal and to incorporate the symbol or codeword in the determination of at least one further symbol or codeword.
