  • Patent number: 7918226
Abstract: A method for identifying an occlusion in a breathing tube of a ventilator system is disclosed herein. The method includes obtaining data related to a respiratory signal, transferring the data to a processor, and implementing the processor to evaluate the data in a manner adapted to automatically identify the presence of an occlusion in the breathing tube. A corresponding ventilator system is also disclosed.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 10, 2007
Date of Patent: April 5, 2011
    Assignee: General Electric Company
Inventors: Jaron M. Acker, Andrew P. Levi, Andreas Tzanetakis
  • Patent number: 7549421
Abstract: A method for integrating a ventilator device with a monitoring device and other medical devices that allows the function of the monitoring device and medical devices to automatically change based on initiation of a respiratory therapy procedure. In addition, modification of behavior on the part of the ventilator is automatic in response to activation of a medical procedure from the medical device or the monitoring device.

  • Patent number: 7347205
Abstract: A method for providing a pressure reference level for pressure triggering a ventilator responsive to a spontaneous breathing attempt by a patient. In the method, the patient connection of the breathing circuit is capped or plugged. A gas flow is then provided through the breathing circuit and is altered to an amount that causes the flow resistance properties of the breathing circuit to generate a desired gas pressure in the breathing circuit suitable for use as a reference pressure by the ventilator for pressure responsive triggering. During the operation of the ventilator, gas flow in a corresponding amount serves as a bias flow in the breathing circuit to assist breathing by the patient. The bias flow also generates the reference pressure level in the breathing circuit. A reduction in pressure from the pressure level resulting from inhalation by the patient triggers the operation of the ventilator.
