  • Publication number: 20140338995
Abstract: System and methods for retaining a battery system included in a vehicle are presented. In certain embodiments, a system for enclosing a battery system may utilize a plurality of modular components. The modular components may include a plurality of first side components and a plurality of second side components coupled to the plurality of first side components. A first top component and a second top component may be coupled to the first side components. In certain embodiments, the second top component may be configured to prevent the first top component from being decoupled from the first side components.

  • Patent number: 8859133
Abstract: A repeating frame assembly for a battery pack includes a first cooling frame member having a first electrically conductive connection terminal adjacent a first end of the first cooling frame member. The connection terminal includes a top leg forming at least a portion of the first surface of the first cooling frame member and a bottom leg forming at least a portion of the second surface of the first cooling frame member. A first electrically conductive tab of a first battery cell is attached to the top leg of the first electrically conductive connection terminal. A second battery cell may be contained within a second cooling frame member or a first spacer frame member having a second electrically conductive connection terminal adjacent a first end thereof for providing a compression joint having a low resistance electrical connection to the second tab of the first battery cell.

  • Publication number: 20140253312
Abstract: An alarm system for a vehicle charge cord is provided. The alarm system has an armed state and a disarmed state. The alarm system includes a battery, a charge cord sensor, a battery state estimator (“BSE”) module, and an interface module. The battery has state of charge (“SOC”), and is rechargeable to a predetermined level of charge. The charge cord sensor is configured to detect if the vehicle charge cord is connected to or disconnected from a vehicle. The BSE module is configured to monitor the SOC of the rechargeable battery and determine if the battery is charged to the predetermined level of charge. The interface module is in communication with the charge cord sensor and the BSE module. The interface module is configured to switch the alarm system from the armed state to the disarmed state.

  • Patent number: 8709636
Abstract: A repeating cell frame for a battery pack assembly is disclosed having a cooling module and a spacer module. The cooling module includes a frame having a first electrical connector and a second electrical connector disposed thereon, wherein a first battery cell includes a first electrically conductive tab in electrical communication with the first electrical connector and a second electrically conductive tab in electrical communication with the second electrical connector. The spacer module includes a frame having a third electrical connector and a fourth electrical connector disposed thereon, wherein a second battery cell includes a first electrically conductive tab in electrical communication with the third electrical connector and a second electrically conductive tab in electrical communication with the fourth electrical connector. The third electrical connector of the spacer module is releasably joined to the second electrical connector of the cooling module to form the repeating cell frame.

  • Patent number: 8647762
Abstract: A battery cell module includes an enclosure having an electrically non-conductive perimeter and at least one cover formed from a thermally conductive material. The cover has a substantially flat inner surface and sealingly engages the electrically non-conductive perimeter. A plurality of series-interconnected battery cells are placed together into facing contact with each other, an exterior one of the battery cells in facing contact with the inner surface of the cover to facilitate heat transfer therethrough and to provide a desired compression against the series-interconnected battery cells. A first end of the series-interconnected battery cells includes a positive terminal end, and a second end of the series-interconnected battery cells including a negative terminal end, the series-interconnected battery cells the positive and negative terminal ends extending through the electrically non-conductive perimeter.

  • Publication number: 20130273399
Abstract: A battery pack having an integrated cooling system which includes a first battery module including a first plurality of battery cells separated by a first plurality of channels, a second battery module including a second plurality of battery cells separated by a second plurality of channels, and a fan that creates air flow between the first and second plurality of channels. The battery pack also includes a manifold having a first conduit section lead from the fan to the first plurality of channels and a second conduit section lead from the fan to the second plurality of channels. Characteristically, the fan is positioned in the manifold where it creates the air flow that is directed by the manifold to the first plurality of channels and the second plurality of channels.
