  • Patent number: 6726822
Abstract: An improved electrodeionization system for removing ions from liquids passed therethrough, comprising a flow-through electrodeionization module, and a power supply electrically connected to the electrodeionization module electrodes so as to establish a voltage gradient thereacross. The invention includes a monitoring device such as a resistivity sensor for monitoring the value of a property (e.g. resistivity) of the liquid output flow from the electrodeionization module, and a controller responsive to the monitoring device, for controlling the amount of time that the power supply is turned on, to maintain output quality within a predetermined range, while conserving power and simplifying power supply design.

Date of Patent: April 27, 2004
    Assignee: Millipore Corporation
    Inventors: Benny Garcia, Andrew Proulx
  • Publication number: 20030189002
Abstract: The present invention is a composite filter for use with recycling gray water. The filter is comprised of a housing containing a series of filters, a first depth filter, preferably made of cellulose fibers for removing particles and turbidity causing materials, a second depth filter, preferably made of cellulose and diatomaceous earth for removing additional particles and turbidity causing materials, an organics filter, preferably a carbon filter to remove organic material and an ion exchange material to remove dissolved ionic species such as salts, acids and the like.

  • Patent number: 6373390
Abstract: An EAS tag in which the tag is held to an article by an attaching assembly a part of which is releasably prevented from being withdrawn from the body of the tag. The tag body is provided with an arcuate channel through which an arcuate detacher probe can be guided for releasing the attaching assembly part. A spring clamp provides the releasable preventing function and includes jaws specifically adapted to respond to in-plane torsional forces provided by the arcuate probe which is moved through the arcuate channel by rotation to reach the spring clamp. An abutment and spring gate mechanism is placed within the arcuate channel to prevent a relatively rigid wire formed into an arcuate shape from being used to release the attaching assembly part.

  • Patent number: 5176828
Abstract: A tangential flow filtration apparatus which utilizes a single manifold formed of a stack of manifold segments to introduce liquid to be filtered into the apparatus and to remove a filtrate stream and a retentate stream from the apparatus is provided. A plurality of filtration modules are stacked between the manifold and a plate. Holes and sealing means are provided within the filtration modules to effect flow of the filtrate, retentate and feed liquid through the stack and manifold while preventing admixture of the filtrate with the retentate or the feed liquid. A feed manifold is positioned at an intermediate position within the stack of manifold segments. All manifold segments with the exception of the most downstream manifold segment or most upstream manifold segment from the point of introducing incoming liquid must have a filtrate exit from both ends of the manifold segment. The most downstream or the most upstream manifold segment also can have filtrate exits from both of its ends.
