  • Patent number: 5380164
Abstract: A two-stage pump (9) for a continuous ink jet printing system comprises a first stage (A) which includes a chamber (91,92) having an inlet (93) and an outlet (94) via a non-return valve (115) to a channel (95). The first stage chamber (91,92) is divided by a dished diaphragm (101) movable by a first cylinder (97) mounted on a pump shaft (98). The pump (9) has a second stage (B) comprising a chamber (104,105) having an inlet (106) from the channel (95) and an outlet (107). The second stage chamber (104,105) is divided by a rolling diaphragm (116) movable by a second cylinder (108) mounted on a pump shaft (98). The cylinders (97,108) are arranged to be driven, and thus drive their respective diaphragms (101,116), 180.degree. out of phase so that ink and air enters the first stage chamber (91,92), is pressurised by the first cylinder (97) and passed through the channel (95) to the second stage chamber, and is further pressurised and passed out of the outlet (107) of the second stage chamber (104,105).

  • Patent number: 5289435
Abstract: A capacitive electro-mechanical transducer for responding to both push and pull, for example in a road vehicle drawbar, involves axially spaced flanges (3) on the one force-transmitting member lying on opposite sides of a transverse portion (1) of the other member. The force is transmitted resiliently between the flanges and the portion, and there are capacitor plates (11) between the flanges (3) and the portion (1), so that on relative displacement the capacitance of one set of plates increases and that of the other set decreases. The plates are symmetrically disposed, e.g. of annular form, and they, or the dielectric (13) between them, can be wavy.

  • Patent number: 4635376
Abstract: Angle measuring apparatus, particularly for measuring doctor blade angle, comprises an elongate support (1); a horizontal level detecting device (4) pivotally connected to an upper surface of the support (1); and means (5, 8) for determining the angle between the support (1) and the horizontal level detecting device (4). An under surface of the support (1) includes a pair of projecting feet (13, 14), the arrangement being such that when the apparatus is placed on a cylinder, the upper surface of the support (1) is substantially parallel with a chord of the cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4223175
Abstract: An electric cable support system is provided having means for supporting electric cables and an elongate metal duct housing said support means and divided transversely into separately formed parts that are detachably secured together, the internal surface of at least a part of the length of the elongate duct is lined with a continuous wall of thermal insulating material and/or absorbing material comprising a closed envelope, or at least two closed envelopes arranged adjacent one another, containing non-flammable evaporative cooling fluid. Preferably, the or each envelope is made of a flexible material which will melt at a temperature at or near the boiling point of the cooling fluid. In the event of an external fire, when the temperature of the duct wall is sufficient to melt the flexible material of an envelope, the cooling fluid will start to evaporate and cool the duct interior.
