Patent number: 11785694Abstract: In various embodiments, an architecture is provided for implementing circadian lighting in a home automation system having diverse lighting devices of different capabilities and manners of control. The architecture utilizes an outdoor sensor to capture current intensity and color temperature data for the outdoor environment. Color temperatures and intensities from a user-created circadian lighting curve are dynamically adjusted based on the current intensity and color temperature data for the outdoor environment to approximate changes that are occurring. The diverse lighting devices are controlled based on the dynamically adjusted temperatures and intensities.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 2020Date of Patent: October 10, 2023Assignee: Savant Systems, Inc.Inventors: Andrew R. Hamm, Kevin C. Kicklighter, Anthony J. Fritts, Yue Zhou, Alejandro Orellana

Patent number: 10863267Abstract: Example techniques are provided for controlling volume of A/V devices using an improved volume control. The volume control may be implemented as a slider, where the sliding element is temporarily slid in response to user input (e.g., touched and dragged by the user), but then automatically “snaps” back to the center of the slider's range when the user input ends (e.g., is released by the user). Movement of the element from the center is interpreted as a relative volume adjustment, with the rate of volume change being proportional to the distance between the center of the range and the temporary position of the element. An indicator is provided indicating the rate, to provide user feedback. The volume control may be utilized as a master volume control in a home automation system.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2016Date of Patent: December 8, 2020Assignee: Savant Systems, Inc.Inventors: Michael C. Silva, George T. Katsiris, Andrew R. Hamm, Christopher R. Nelson, II

Patent number: 10775960Abstract: In one embodiment, a technique is utilized to generate a virtual-room of a virtual room-based user interface that controls one or more devices within a physical room of a structure. A user is prompted to select one or more services provided by the one or more devices within the physical room. A plurality of images of the physical room are obtained that each share substantially a same perspective. The plurality of images include an all-off image, in which all of the one or more of the services are in an inactive state, and one or more service-specific images, in which a single service is in an active state and any other services are in the inactive state. The plurality of images are aligned to create an aligned image stack. One or more hit boxes are designated. The virtual room is generated based on the aligned image stack and the designated one or more hit boxes.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2014Date of Patent: September 15, 2020Assignee: Savant Systems, Inc.Inventors: Robert P. Madonna, Michael C. Silva, Nicholas J. Cipollo, Andrew R. Hamm

Patent number: 10042336Abstract: Techniques are provided for defining and activating scenes in a home automation system. In one embodiment, a user-defined scene is automatically captured based on current states in a home automation system and a last media query. Current states in the home automation system are automatically captured for services to build a set of states, the set of states including states of services provided by multiple different types of devices, the multiple different types including two or more of audio/video (A/V) devices, lighting devices, heating ventilation and cooling (HVAC) devices, security devices, shade control devices, energy conservation devices, or communications devices. A last media query performed by the home automation system is also captured. A user-defined scene is generated from both. The user-defined scene is stored, and when it is determined it should be activated, service requests are sent.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 2014Date of Patent: August 7, 2018Assignee: Savant Systems, LLCInventors: Nicholas J. Cipollo, Andrew R. Hamm, Ryan E. Kitson, Nathan A. Trapp, Cameron B. Pulsford, Timothy R. Locascio, George T. Katsiris, Michael C. Silva, Jose J. Ronquillo Rodriguez

Patent number: 10032364Abstract: In one embodiment, a wireless lighting application (app) is executed on a mobile device to configure a wireless lighting control system including a plurality of wireless lighting control devices. A connection is established between the mobile device and a wireless lighting control device. In response to user input in a graphical user interface (GUI) of the wireless lighting app, the wireless lighting app configures at least one of a lighting controller, keypads or lamp modules by at least associating an attached lighting load with a load name. Further, the wireless lighting app defines a lighting scene that uses the lighting load having the load name. Still further, the wireless lighting app assigns the lighting scene to a programmable button of one of the wireless lighting control devices such that, in response to a press of the programmable button, the wireless lighting control system produces the predefined lighting effect.Type: GrantFiled: May 15, 2014Date of Patent: July 24, 2018Assignee: Savant Systems, LLCInventors: Andrew R.
